Daemon Seed — Planar Drug of Stolen Memory

Daemon seed is a supernatural narcotic traded across the planes: a viscous, sometimes iridescent substance taken from a daemon and carrying fragments of memories the fiend has consumed. Its appeal is power and impossible insight; its price is addiction, injury and attracting the attention of creatures no mortal should want watching them.

Price: 1,000 gp. Effect: 1 hour; +1d4 profane bonus on saves and skill checks, plus +1d6 profane bonus to one randomly determined skill. Damage: 15% chance of blindness and deafness for 1 hour and 1 negative level (DC 20).

5.5e / 2024, 5e / 2014 and 3.5e

No mechanics are presented here as official rules for these editions. Conversions should preserve the core identity—temporary stolen expertise, severe supernatural risk and daemon attention—without disguising new mechanics as published rules.

What Happens When You Take It?

The user experiences delusional euphoria and a storm of memories once digested by the source daemon. Which skill becomes unnaturally heightened varies from dose to dose, so buyers cannot reliably choose the insight they receive.

Addiction & After-effects

For non-daemons, daemon seed carries major addiction. Its worst reactions can leave a user temporarily blind and deaf and spiritually weakened. Persistent planar rumours also claim that recent users become easier for daemons to notice; the exact reach of that effect is deliberately uncertain and makes excellent GM leverage.

Where Is It Found?

Daemon seed belongs to planar black markets, daemon strongholds, cult stores, forbidden apothecaries and the baggage of travellers who have returned from hostile outer realms. Its 1,000 gp price makes a genuine dose valuable enough to motivate theft, murder, forgery and dangerous expeditions.

Buying or Finding It

Most characters should encounter daemon seed as contraband, treasure, evidence or payment rather than ordinary shop stock. A seller may not know which daemon supplied it, whether it is genuine, or what memories remain trapped within it.

Encounters & Adventure Use

  • A murder victim carried a dose containing a memory somebody desperately wants recovered.
  • A dealer is selling counterfeit seed while a daemon hunts the real shipment.
  • A planar traveller returns with impossible expertise and no memory of taking the drug.
  • A cult uses addiction to bind mortal agents to a daemon patron.
  • A dose grants exactly the skill needed for a crisis—but marks the user for supernatural attention.
