Blinding Sickness (Onchocerciasis”river blindness”)

From D&D Wiki

Name: Onchocerciasis (Ex)
Infection DC: Type disease, ingested; Save Fortitude DC 16 Onset 1d3 days; Frequency 1/day
Effect: 1d4 Strength damage, if more than 2 Strength damage, target must make an additional Fort save or be permanently blinded; Cure 2 consecutive saves

Also known as “river blindness” due to the fact it can cause permanent blindness. It is generally nonfatal.

This disease is actually a parasite, which can cause the sufferer to appear as if he or she has lizard skin, or leopard skin, from the tissue damage it causes. The itching occurs when the nematoade of a black fly dies within the skin tissue. When the nematode is present in the eyes, it destroys the optical tissue and leads to blindness.
