Cockroach Swarm

 Cockroach Swarm
My Images (midjourney.com)

Appearance: A writhing mass of grotesque resilience, the Cockroach Swarm manifests as an undulating sea of countless interlocking exoskeletons, their iridescent carapaces forming a living tapestry of filth and disease. Each individual insect, minute yet relentless, contributes to the swarm’s formidable presence.

Behavior: A symphony of unsettling clicks and skittering, the Cockroach Swarm moves as one, a synchronized entity that defies the notion of individuality. Fueled by an unrelenting survival instinct, the swarm exhibits a collective intelligence, navigating obstacles and seeking out every crevice with chilling efficiency.

Habitat: Unfussy and adaptive, the Cockroach Swarm thrives in the shadowy recesses of urban landscapes, slithering through neglected alleys, abandoned structures, and damp sewers. It is in the dark and forgotten corners that this relentless horde establishes its breeding grounds.

Modus Operandi: In a calculated wave, the Cockroach Swarm engulfs everything in its path, infiltrating homes and establishments alike. Their ability to consume organic matter is unparalleled, leaving nothing but desolation in their wake. The swarm’s nocturnal assaults are swift and overwhelming, reducing once-thriving environments to eerie silence.

Motivation: Driven by an instinctual desire for sustenance and reproduction, the Cockroach Swarm is an embodiment of tenacity in the face of adversity. With an uncanny ability to survive almost any catastrophe, their motivation lies solely in the perpetuation of their species, regardless of the havoc wrought upon the world above.

Swarm. The swarm can occupy another creature’s space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a Tiny cockroach. The swarm can’t regain hit points or gain temporary hit points.

Distraction. Any creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of the swarm must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the start of the creature’s next turn.

Actions

Bites. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm’s space. Hit: 10 (4d4) piercing damage, or 5 (2d4) piercing damage if the swarm has half of its hit points or fewer.

Infestation (Recharge 5-6). The swarm moves into the creature’s space and the creature must make a DC 11 Dexterity saving throw, taking 18 (4d8) piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the saving throw is failed by 5 or more, the target is also blinded until the end of its next turn.

The unnerving clicking of innumerable tiny legs heralds the approach of the Cockroach Swarm, an unrelenting tide of pests devouring everything in its path. Beware the darkness, for within it, the swarm thrives, reducing the mightiest to helpless prey.

Swarms of flesh-eating cockroaches are extremely virulent pests. Normally carnivorous scavengers, these vermin quickly transform into aggressive hunters when amassed in great numbers, actively seeking out territory and food and gravitating to locations that readily provide both, such as dumps, graveyards, sewers, swamps, and other foul areas filled with rotting waste.

Although a flesh-eating cockroach swarm prefers to feed on rot and carrion, these ravenous creatures do not balk at attacking living creatures as large as an elephant if given a chance.
