A honeybee buzzes toward you with a strange intent. As it approaches, you can make out an extra pair of insect wings of similar form. A moment later, you can see that the second set of wings belongs to a miniscule woman, riding on the bee’s back.

Pillywiggins are flower fairies, pollinators closely associated with bees and wind. They ride bees among the flowers, training the bees to be as efficient as possible in their pollination of those flowers. They build their tiny cities around beehives, and they harvest honey and care for the bees in the colony. If the bees leave, the pillywiggins follow.

During the fall and winter, the pillywiggins guard the sleeping queen bees – since this is a small job, most of the city takes time to relax and rest. The ruler usually presides over well-organized winter games that encourage community and relaxation. A pillywiggin ruler is simply known as the lady of her people (or, rarely, the lord), and usually has 9 or more levels of druid.

Pillywiggin culture emphasizes hard work, growth, family, culture, and loyalty. They are firmly aligned with the Seelie Court.

Pillywiggins look like tiny elves, with gossamer wings similar in texture and size to those of their bee mounts. They usually stand about three quarters of an inch tall.

Pillywiggins are flower fairies, strongly associated with pollination and springtime, and by extension with bees and wind.

Combat

A pillywiggin that is interrupted in her duties will most likely hide until the intruders leave. If the intruders don’t leave within about twenty minutes, the pillywiggin will try to complete any other duties she may have. If her only remaining objective can’t be completed without alerting the intruders to her presence, the pillywiggin will politely but firmly ask them to leave. If they don’t Listen, she will carry out her duties and ignore them.

If attacked, she will flee. Pillywiggins can be aroused to violence if the flowers they are tending are harmed, or if their homes or hives are threatened. When defending an area, pillywiggins like to surprise intruders and entangle them. Then, they seek out fey or vermin allies to handle their enemies.
