Flying Squirrel

Flying Squirrel
By John Gerrard Keulemans – Anderson, John (1878) Anatomical and Zoological Researches: comprising an account of the Zoological results of the two expeditions to Western Yunnan in 1868 and 1875. Bernard Quaritch, London., Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=31781698

Although not capable of actual flight, a flying squirrel possesses a furry membrane stretching between its wrists and ankles, allowing it to glide for long distances.

Small familiars threaten the areas around them like Small creatures, and can be used to flank enemies, though both familiars and their masters are often loath to use such tactics, as the result is often a dead familiar. Small familiars are also harder to keep on a master’s person than Tiny or smaller familiars. Often they require some form of magic item, like a bag of holding, to remain truly out of sight.

Flying squirrels use the same statistics as regular squirrels, but have a glide speed of 30 ft. in addition to ground and climbing. Using their wing flaps, flying squirrels can glide at a ratio of 2 feet horizontally for every 1 foot vertically. In other words, a flying squirrel which starts out 50 feet above the ground can glide to a distance 100 feet before touching ground. While gliding, a flying squirrel cannot take any other action.
