(Dinosaur) Tsintaosaurus

 Tsintaosaurus

These duck-billed dinosaurs have crests that makes them look somewhat like reptilian unicorns – unlike those of other duck-bills, these dinosaurs’ crests project forward from between their eyes. All of a sudden, one of the dinosaurs starts to bellow at a deafening volume…

Tsintaosaurus is one of the strangest of the crested hadrosaurs. Because of its crest, it is sometimes called ‘the unicorn dinosaur.’ The tsintaosaurus’ crest supports a pair of large fleshy sacs on its nose, which allow it to bellow with deafening volume, and it is because of its deafening bellow that locals are generally loath to attempt to domesticate these dinosaurs.

Tsintaosaurus is about 33 feet long and weighs 3 tons.

SPECIAL TRAITS

  • Trampling Charge. If the Hadrosaur moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and hits that creature with a Ram attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength check or be knocked prone. If the target is knocked prone, the Hadrosaur may make one Stomp attack against it as a bonus action.

ACTIONS

  • RamMelee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d10 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
  • StompMelee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one prone creature. Hit: 17 (3d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage.

ABOUT

A generally placid and peaceful grazer of grass and ferns, the Hadrosaur is a danger only in large numbers. Shy, these creatures prefer to avoid trouble. However, each herd keeps several of its number on lookout. When danger threatens, the herd bunches together, placing young and pregnant females in the center. If the threat attacks, the herd attempts to move away en masse, but this direction is always away from the first threat and might lead to them trampling other hunters or running into a more dangerous situation.

Combat

Tsintaosaurus is usually a docile creature; unprovoked attacks are almost unheard of and are only ever made by males during the breeding season. When threatened by a predator, a tsintaosaurus bellows in order to warn the rest of the herd.

Deafening Bellow (Ex): Once per minute, a tsintaosaurus may unleash a deafening bellow as a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. All Huge or smaller creatures (besides other tsintaosauruses) within a 50-foot radius of the bellowing tsintaosaurus are deafened for 2d4 rounds unless they succeed on a Fortitude save (DC 26); if so, they are deafened for only 1 round. Creatures with 5 HD or fewer are also stunned for 1d6 rounds unless they succeed on their Fortitude save, which reduces the stun effect to 1d2 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based. This is a sonic effect, so deaf creatures are cannot be affected.

Trample (Ex): Reflex half DC 23. The save DC is Strength-based.
