Dinosaur, Brachiosaurus, the Sky-Browsing Colossus

Towering herbivore of ancient plains and high canopies.

Appearance:
The Brachiosaurus is a true titan among beasts. Standing nearly 40 feet tall when fully grown and stretching over 80 feet in length, its long, pillar-like forelimbs elevate its shoulders and neck high above most trees. Its sloped back leads down to a thick, balancing tail, while its small head, perched atop an arched, muscular neck, peers down from a height few predators dare challenge. Its skin is thick, pebbled, and dappled with earthy tones of mossy green, grey, or sun-baked brown—perfect for blending in with the forest canopy and ancient valley slopes.

Behaviour:
Despite its size, the Brachiosaurus is a peaceful and social creature, moving in loosely coordinated herds that communicate with low-frequency rumbling calls. They are constantly migrating in search of new growth to strip from the treetops, often returning to ancestral feeding grounds. During the wet season, herds gather in river valleys, where younger individuals are protected within the group’s center while older adults form a defensive perimeter.

Habitat:
Brachiosaurus thrives in warm, subtropical lowlands, floodplains, and open forests where vegetation grows tall and thick. Ancient jungle canopies, fern savannahs, and swamp-bordered woodlands are their preferred feeding grounds. Their massive weight requires relatively stable, open terrain, and they are often seen near bodies of water, not for swimming, but for wallowing and cooling off.

Modus Operandi:
Brachiosaurus does not hunt, but it does defend. When threatened by predators or startled by humanoid intruders, the colossus will rear back onto its hind limbs and bring down its weight with a devastating stomp capable of flattening trees or foes. If provoked further, it swings its long tail like a battering ram, sweeping enemies aside. It may not be aggressive by nature, but it is relentless in defense of its young and its herd. The sheer presence of a defensive Brachiosaurus is enough to send even seasoned predators fleeing.

Motivation:
Driven by simple but powerful instincts: survival, sustenance, and protection. The Brachiosaurus is governed by a desire to feed on unreachable foliage, ensure the safety of its kin, and avoid conflict unless provoked. Unlike more fearsome beasts, its power lies not in malice, but in the overwhelming strength of its bulk and its unwavering will to endure. It walks not with anger—but with the slow, deliberate majesty of a creature from an age before time.

Titanic Mass

The Brachiosaurus cannot be forcibly moved or knocked prone. It ignores difficult terrain and can step over creatures and obstacles Large or smaller without penalty.

Canopy Strider

The Brachiosaurus can see and reach through vertical foliage up to 30 feet overhead. It suffers no penalties to sight or movement in dense forests.

Tremor Stride

Whenever the Brachiosaurus moves 10 feet or more on its turn, all creatures within 10 feet of its path must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or fall prone.

Actions

Multiattack

The Brachiosaurus makes two attacks: one with Tail Slam and one with Stomp.

Tail Slam

Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target.
Hit: 31 (4d10 + 9) bludgeoning damage. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked back 15 feet and fall prone.

Stomp

Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature beneath or adjacent.
Hit: 42 (6d12 + 6) bludgeoning damage. If the target is prone, it takes an additional 13 (3d8) damage.

Trumpeting Roar (Recharge 5–6)

The Brachiosaurus releases a thunderous bellow audible for miles. Creatures of its choice within 60 feet must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 18 (4d8) thunder damage and be deafened for 1 minute. On a success, they take half damage and are not deafened.

Legendary Actions

(Optional – use for epic encounters)

The Brachiosaurus can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn.

  • Swipe. The Brachiosaurus makes one Tail Slam attack.
  • Seismic Step (Costs 2 Actions). The Brachiosaurus stomps the ground. Each creature within 15 feet must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or fall prone and take 13 (3d8) bludgeoning damage.
  • Move. The Brachiosaurus moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.

Tactics

  • Not aggressive, but will defend itself or its herd with overwhelming force.
  • Uses Tail Slam to knock creatures away, then Stomp to punish the prone.
  • Trumpeting Roar is used early to scatter attackers or alert nearby beasts.
  • In a herd, multiple Brachiosaurs can create tremors and control the entire battlefield.

Environment

  • Found in ancient jungles, floodplains, and lush highland forests.
  • Lone wanderers are rare; herds can reshape ecosystems and migration routes.

Brachiosaurus altithorax Date 2007 dmitrchel@mail.ru

This incredibly tall quadruped has a huge, almost erect neck, a short tail, a very broad chest, thin legs and a short head with a flat snout and a high crest. Although the seismosaurus might be longer and heavier, the brachiosaurus is the tallest of all the dinosaurs. The largest specimens (such as the sauroposeidon) reach Colossal+ size. Brachiosaurs are almost 90 feet long and nearly 50 feet tall. They are slow and clumsy by even the standards of the sauropods, but their long legs and neck allow it to reach the tallest branches. They are herd organisms, and because of their size have no natural enemies.

Heaviest of all dinosaurs, this monster dwells in warm swamps and lakes. Its long front feet are deadly. It weighs roughly 90 tons, three times more than a brontosaurus. Brachiosaurus is one of the tallest and largest dinosaurs known. It is a huge herbivore that walks on 4 legs, but unlike other large herbivores, it’s front legs are longer than it’s hind legs, which elevates it’s neck like a giraffe.

COMBAT

A brachiosaurus is most likely to use its front claws for uprooting trees, but when attacked by something large enough to concern it (usually a rival brachiosaur), it can use them to deadly effect. Against most dangers, it simply walks over them.

The stamps of a brachiosaurus are considered to be bludgeoning and slashing weapons for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Trample (Ex): A brachiosaurus can literally run over any creatures in its way that are of Gargantuan or smaller size. Creatures trampled must make a Reflex save (DC 39 half) or take 10d8+22 damage. The save DC is Strength-based.
