Efreeti Bottle: The Brass Flask of Fiery Genies and Wishbound Peril
Create

Efreeti Bottle — A lustrous brass flask forged in the legendary City of Brass on the Elemental Plane of Fire, this enchanted relic binds or summons an efreeti: a proud, flame-wreathed genie whose aid can grant wealth, raise palaces, or unleash ruin. Feared and coveted across Earth’s courts, the Efreeti Bottle stands as one of the most dangerous gateways between the Material Plane and the searing dominions of fire.

Appearance

The Efreeti Bottle is a vessel of rich brass or red-gold, heavy enough to command respect but small enough to be carried beneath a cloak. Its flanks bear etched flames, curling smoke, and stylized domes reminiscent of far-off palaces. A stopper of fire-opal, obsidian, or dark iron is tethered with fine chain, and even when tightly sealed, the surface radiates a dry, steady warmth.

Origins

Loremasters agree that these bottles were first hammered into shape in the forges of the City of Brass, capital of the proud efreeti on the Elemental Plane of Fire. Through ancient planar gates—hidden in desert caves, lonely sea arches, or the ruins of forgotten temples—merchants ferried them into the mortal world. Medieval scholars from Cairo to Córdoba whispered of “brazen flasks from beyond the heavens,” while pilgrims claimed to glimpse their makers: towering genies wreathed in smoke, bargaining in the Great Bazaar of the Outlands before vanishing through portals to Earth.

Stories and Folklore

From Andalusian courts to the monasteries of the Caucasus, stories speak of mortals who unstoppered a bottle and gained the service of its imprisoned efreeti: palaces raised overnight, glass so pure it sang, or furnaces that burned without wood. Yet every tale warns of pride offended or bargains twisted—kings reduced to ash, scholars lured through shimmering rifts into the Plane of Fire, never to return. One venerable chronicle tells how the monk Theophanes sealed a treacherous genie back inside its brass home and buried it beneath the a church in the heart of Constantinople, “lest its heat crack the city’s stones.”

Mysterious Qualities

Even unopened, an Efreeti Bottle seems to drink in surrounding warmth, and the air around it smells faintly of saffron and scorched iron. Those who keep one close report dreams of the City of Brass: burnished towers rising over a sea of molten metal, and the hiss of forges echoing beneath an ember-red sky. Some say they feel a pulse through the stopper, as though something inside waits, patient and smoldering. Whether prison, portal, or both, all wise custodians agree on one thing: to draw out what lies within is to summon the pride and peril of the Plane of Fire into our world.

This item is typically fashioned of brass or bronze, with a lead stopper bearing special seals. A thin stream of smoke is often seen issuing from it.

The bottle can be opened once per day. When opened, the efreeti imprisoned within issues from the bottle instantly. There is a 10% chance (01-10 on d%) that the efreeti is insane and attacks immediately upon being released. There is also a 10% chance (91-100) that the efreeti of the bottle grants three wishes. In either case, the efreeti afterward disappears forever. The other 80% of the time (11-90), the inhabitant of the bottle loyally serves the character for up to 10 minutes per day (or until the efreeti’s death), doing as she commands. Roll each day the bottle is opened for that day’s effect.
