Sonic Witchcraft • Legacy Fear Spell

Witch Wail

A dramatic scene representing the supernatural cry of Witch Wail

Witch Wail releases a supernatural cry that damages creatures nearby and can terrify weaker foes. Its Hit-Dice thresholds and Scare interaction belong to the legacy d20 rules.

Creatures of 5 Hit Dice or fewer make a Fortitude save. On a failure they take 4d6 sonic damage, then make a Will save or suffer the effects of Scare.

Creatures with more than 5 Hit Dice make a Fortitude save or take 2d6 sonic damage. The original spell does not apply the Scare effect to this higher-Hit-Dice group.

Edition Boundary

The Hit-Dice threshold, dual saving throws and legacy Scare mechanics do not translate directly to 5.5e or Pathfinder. Use a deliberate conversion rather than importing them unchanged.
