Lightning Trade — Community Epic Feat

Lightning Trade is a third-party epic feat from the Gates of Hell / Grimoire of Cosmic Entities netbook. It speeds up a character’s existing Insider Trading class ability, granting that ability’s benefits in the first round. The feat does not supply Insider Trading itself: you must already have the class feature and follow its original rules.

Original Epic Feat Rules

At a Glance: Charisma 21, Sense Motive 24 ranks and the Insider Trading class ability. The benefit is faster access to the existing ability’s effects, not a new thought-reading power with its own range or saving throw.

  • Prerequisites: Charisma 21, Sense Motive 24 ranks, Insider Trading class ability.
  • Benefits: You gain all the benefits of insider trading in the first round.

Using Lightning Trade

Lightning Trade matters when the first round of an encounter is decisive. A character who already has Insider Trading can use that class feature’s full benefits at once, instead of waiting through any normal delay described by the parent feature. For instance, during tense negotiations with a powerful outsider, the character does not need extra rounds merely to reach the feature’s full benefit.

The limit: The original feat names Insider Trading but does not repeat its full rules. You still need the original class ability to know what information is gained, which creature can be affected, any required check or save, and how long the benefit lasts. Those missing rules cannot safely be reconstructed from the feat’s one-sentence benefit.

Other Editions and Source

This is a community-published D&D 3.5e-style epic feat, not an official D&D 2024, D&D 2014 or Pathfinder 1e feat. No rules conversion is supplied for those editions. Check Sense Motive for the related skill and return to the Epic Feats directory for other character options.
