Feat Improved Bull Rush (General)

Prerequisites: Strength 13, Power Attack.
Benefit: When you perform a bull rush you do not provoke an attack of opportunity from the defender. You also gain a +4 bonus on the opposed Strength check you make to push back the defender.
Special: A fighter may select Improved Bull Rush as one of his fighter bonus feats.

How Improved Bull Rush Works

Improved Bull Rush makes a bull rush safer and more reliable. The defender does not gain an attack of opportunity merely because you initiate the bull rush, and you gain a +4 bonus on the opposed Strength check used to push the defender back.

Improved Bull Rush Example

A fighter attempts to drive an enemy away from a doorway. The fighter does not provoke the defender’s attack of opportunity for starting the bull rush and adds +4 to the opposed Strength check. Other modifiers to the check still apply normally.

When It Is Useful

Moving an enemy away from a vulnerable ally or important position.
Forcing an opponent toward hazardous terrain or out of a defensive formation.
Strength-based characters already using Power Attack, which is one of the feat’s prerequisites.
