- Prerequisites: Descriptor Focus feat in the chosen descriptor, Greater Descriptor Focus feat in the chosen descriptor.
- Benefit: Select any spell descriptor for which you have Greater Descriptor Focus, such as Fire, Good, or Pattern. Add a +1 bonus to the Difficulty Class of all saving throws against your spells and spell-like abilities with the chosen Descriptor; spells without a save DC are instead cast at +1 caster level. This stacks with the effects of all Descriptor Focus, Spell Focus, and Subschool Focus feats.
- Special: You can gain Epic Descriptor Focus multiple times; its effects do not stack. Each time, it applies to a different Descriptor.
Epic Descriptor Focus in Play
Epic Descriptor Focus strengthens magic that shares a particular spell descriptor, such as Fire, Good, or Pattern. Choose a descriptor for which the character already has both Descriptor Focus and Greater Descriptor Focus. The chosen descriptor matters: the benefit applies to the character’s spells and spell-like abilities with that descriptor, not to every spell they cast.
Saving Throw DC Example
Suppose a spell carrying the chosen Fire descriptor would ordinarily have a saving throw DC of 22 after other applicable modifiers. Epic Descriptor Focus increases that DC to 23. This is the feat’s additional +1 bonus; it does not replace the bonuses from Descriptor Focus, Greater Descriptor Focus, Spell Focus, or Subschool Focus where those feats already apply.
When a Spell Has No Saving Throw
If an affected spell or spell-like ability has no saving throw DC, the feat’s stated alternative is to treat it as cast at +1 caster level instead. Do not give the same spell both this substitute caster-level bonus and the feat’s saving throw DC bonus. The actual effects of increased caster level depend on the spell: check its duration, range, damage limits, spell resistance interactions, or other caster-level calculations rather than assuming that every statistic increases.
Prerequisites and Repeated Selection
- Descriptor Focus: already possessed for the selected descriptor.
- Greater Descriptor Focus: already possessed for that same descriptor.
- Repeated selection: the feat may be taken for a different descriptor, but the same feat’s effects do not stack together on one descriptor.
