Charm — Epic Spell Seed
Charm is a third-party epic spell seed from the Dicefreaks Grimoire of Cosmic Entities Volume One. It extends the D&D 3.x epic-spell framework with a seed for supernatural friendship and influence. It is not part of the official 3.5e SRD epic seed list and has no direct 5e/2014 or 5.5e/2024 equivalent.

Seed Effect
The seed makes a living creature regard the caster as a trusted friend and ally. It changes attitude rather than granting direct control: the subject still has its own judgement, motives and limits.
If the caster or the caster’s allies are threatening or attacking the target, the target receives a +5 bonus on its saving throw. If charmed, the creature interprets the caster’s words favourably, but persuading it to do something it would not normally do requires an opposed Charisma check. The effect does not force suicidal or obviously self-destructive behaviour.
Threatening the charmed creature after the effect begins breaks the charm. Communication still requires a shared language or an effective alternative.
Epic Development Factor
To remove the target’s +5 saving-throw bonus for being threatened by the caster or the caster’s allies, increase the epic spell’s Spellcraft DC by +4.
Further changes to casting time, range, duration, target count, saving throw difficulty or other parameters should use the campaign’s epic-spell development rules rather than being improvised as ordinary spell-slot scaling.
Edition Status
- 5.5e / 2024: no epic spell-seed subsystem and no direct Charm seed.
- 5e / 2014: no epic spell-seed subsystem and no direct Charm seed.
- Pathfinder 1e: not a core Pathfinder epic seed.
- D&D 3.5e: designed for the 3.x epic-spell framework, but this specific seed is third-party Dicefreaks material rather than an official SRD seed.
Using the Charm Seed
This seed is best used when an epic effect needs allegiance, trust or influence without becoming outright domination. It suits long-term diplomatic compulsions, supernatural patronage, false friendship and effects that make an impossible audience willing to listen.
Because the target remains an independent creature, the seed should not be treated as a substitute for direct control. Commands that contradict identity, survival or deeply held goals still require persuasion and may remain impossible.
