In a futuristic society where reaching the age of 30 is a death sentence, a rebellious law enforcement agent goes on the run in search of Sanctuary.
Logan’s Run is a science fiction television series that first aired in 1977-78. The series is based on the 1967 novel of the same name by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, and it is set in a post-apocalyptic future in which the remaining population lives in a domed city called “Sanctuary.” The show centers around the character of Logan 5, played by Gregory Harrison, a “Sandman” whose job it is to hunt down and eliminate “runners” who attempt to escape Sanctuary and the mandatory death sentence given to everyone when they reach the age of 30.
One of the most prominent feature of the series is the Lifeclock, a device implanted in the citizens’ hand at birth, it counts down the days to the citizens Renewal, which is the age of 30, at that point the citizens are supposed to participate in a Carousel process to be ‘Renewed’ and live another 30 years. But not everyone does participate, some try to run, and that’s where Logan comes in.
The series explores themes of rebellion and individual freedom, as Logan begins to question the strict rules and regulations of Sanctuary and the Carousel process, which he believes is a form of genocide. Alongside Logan, there are other characters who also start to question their way of living. The audience gets to see how they try to navigate the tight control of the government, as they are torn between doing what they are told and fighting for what they believe in. Logan’s journey will take him to the Outside World, a place that most citizens of Sanctuary never get to see.
