Locate Animals or Plants
Locate Animals or Plants finds the nearest example of a named kind within five miles. PF1e and D&D 3.5e use the different spell Detect Animals or Plants, which scans a cone over time rather than giving a five-mile direction and distance.

Pathfinder 1e
PF1e has no same-named spell. Its close analogue is Detect Animals or Plants, a 1st-level Druid/Ranger divination that scans a cone and reveals more information over successive rounds.
D&D 3.5e
D&D 3.5e likewise uses Detect Animals or Plants. It has long range, a cone-shaped emanation and concentration up to 10 minutes per level; it is not a five-mile locator.
What Changed?
- 2024 explicitly includes Beast creatures, Plant creatures and nonmagical plants.
- Modern editions give a single direction-and-distance answer within five miles.
- PF1e/3.5e use a different detection spell rather than this locator.
