A Coat of Darkness is a black enchanted coat made for concealment and shadow magic. In the legacy rules represented here, it improves the wearer’s ability to hide and can cloak the wearer in supernatural shadow once each day.
Legacy Rules
- Hide: +4 bonus on Hide checks.
- Daily power: once per day, the coat can cast Intangible Cloak of Shadows on the wearer.
- Caster Level: 8th.
- Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item and Intangible Cloak of Shadows.
- Market Price: 1,500 gp.
Using the Coat
The continuous Hide bonus makes the coat useful to scouts, spies and anyone who works in dim streets, ruins or woodland. Its stronger daily effect is better saved for the moment when ordinary concealment is no longer enough.
Edition Note
This is a legacy magic item. Use the Hide skill, spell text and item-creation rules from the edition or compatible ruleset in which the item is being used rather than assuming modern 5e mechanics.
