Lunar Naga
Meet the Lunar Naga – the mesmerizing, moonlit serpent sorceress whose hypnotic magic and cosmic secrets will leave you spellbound!

Lunar Nagas are ethereal serpentine beings whose glossy black scales shimmer under the moonlight as if dusted with stardust. Each one boasts a strikingly fair face framed by flowing, stark white hair, and their luminous eyes seem to mirror the infinite mysteries of the cosmos. Intricate patterns that resemble celestial charts or constellations often adorn their scales, emphasizing their deep connection to the night sky.
Behaviour:
Graceful and calculating, these creatures move with deliberate, hypnotic precision. They effortlessly blend seductive charm with predatory cunning, entrancing both onlookers and prey with their mesmerizing gazes and subtle displays of arcane prowess. Typically silent, they communicate through nuanced gestures and the subtle flow of magical energy, carefully observing their surroundings before engaging or retreating with enigmatic intent.
Habitat:
Lunar Nagas favor secluded, elevated locations where the vast night sky is on full display. Their abodes range from ancient, crumbling towers and rugged mountain peaks to hidden underground lairs, each carefully chosen to offer an uninterrupted view of the cosmos. These lairs are often imbued with mysticism—ruined walls adorned with arcane symbols and celestial charts that echo their deep, almost sacred communion with the stars.
Modus Operandi:
Masters of ambush and subterfuge, Lunar Nagas employ a seamless blend of magic and stealth to subdue their targets. They use innate hypnotic abilities to lure victims into a state of enchanted submission, then execute a calculated mix of potent spells, venomous bites, and strategic manipulation. Their actions are always measured and deliberate, ensuring that encounters unfold entirely on their terms while often turning their prey into unwitting acolytes in their cosmic schemes.
Motivation:
Driven by an insatiable quest for celestial wisdom, Lunar Nagas are devoted to deciphering the ancient language of the stars. Their relentless pursuit of cosmic secrets not only fuels their magical powers but also cements their role as leaders of cult-like groups of sky-watchers. Beyond personal gain, they strive to restore or protect the ancient cosmic balances, using their nightly rituals and meticulous observations to bridge the gap between the mortal world and the boundless mysteries of the universe.

Innate Spellcasting.
The Lunar Naga’s spellcasting ability is Charisma (Spell Save DC 16). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
At will: Mage Hand, Minor Illusion, Prestidigitation, Ray of Frost
3/day each: Charm Person, Invisibility, Mirror Image, Misty Step, Magic Missile
2/day each: Hypnotic Pattern, Hold Person, Scorching Ray
1/day each: Greater Invisibility, Phantasmal Killer, Wall of Force
Actions
Multiattack.
The Lunar Naga makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Tail Constrict, or it can cast a spell in place of one attack.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature.
- Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 10 (3d6) psychic damage.
- If the target is a creature, it must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, or become Poisoned for 1 minute. A poisoned creature has disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws while affected.
Tail Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature.
- Hit: 15 (3d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 16). Until this grapple ends, the creature is restrained, and the Lunar Naga cannot constrict another target.
Legendary Actions (3/Turn)
The Lunar Naga can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Lunar Naga regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
- Glimmering Hypnosis (Costs 2 Actions). The Lunar Naga’s scales shimmer with an unnatural glow. Each creature within 30 feet that can see it must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become Charmed for 1 minute. The charmed creature follows the Naga unless harmed or forced to move away. It can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turns.
- Mystic Shift. The Lunar Naga magically teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
- Serpent’s Lunge. The Lunar Naga makes a Bite attack against a creature within range.
Lair Actions (Optional for high-level encounters)
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the Lunar Naga can use one of the following lair actions:
- Lunar Veil. The area within 60 feet of the Naga is cloaked in supernatural moonlight. Creatures of the Naga’s choice gain half cover as the light bends around them.
- Illusory Starfield. The ceiling or sky above the battlefield is warped into a shifting illusion of endless stars, disorienting creatures within. All enemies within 60 feet must make a DC 16 Intelligence saving throw or suffer disadvantage on Perception checks and ranged attacks until the end of their next turn.
- Celestial Pulse. The Naga emits a wave of pure lunar energy. Creatures of its choice within 30 feet must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
Tactics
- The Lunar Naga rarely engages in direct combat immediately. It prefers to weaken foes with illusions and enchantments before striking.
- It will open combat with Hypnotic Pattern or Hold Person to disable enemies while staying at range.
- If threatened, it uses Misty Step or Greater Invisibility to reposition.
- Against a strong melee attacker, it will restrain them with Tail Constrict, then use Scorching Ray or Phantasmal Killer to attack vulnerable targets.
- If pressed into a corner, it will activate its Legendary Actions, attempting to charm or teleport away before delivering precise psychic-infused bites.
- When near death, it will attempt to flee using Misty Step or Wall of Force to cut off enemies before disappearing into the night.
Treasure & Rewards
A defeated Lunar Naga may leave behind:
- Moonstone Fang. A shimmering black and silver fang, which can be used to craft a +1 dagger with psychic damage.
- Astral Venom. A small vial of its venom, which induces hallucinations and minor clairvoyance when diluted.
- Star-Etched Scales. If crafted by an expert, these can form enchanted armor resistant to radiant and psychic damage.
- Ancient Celestial Tomes. Knowledge of the stars, sometimes revealing hidden prophecies or guiding the reader to an unknown truth.

Hypnosis (Su)
Once per day, by weaving and coiling its body and hissing as a standard action, a lunar naga can cause its scales to shimmer and glow with moonlike radiance. All creatures within 30 feet must make a DC 17 Will save to avoid becoming fascinated. The lunar naga can maintain this fascination effect as long as it concentrates; fascinated creatures follow the still-glowing naga if it moves as long as it maintains the effect by concentrating. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Treasure standard
Lunar nagas are patient watchers of the night sky. They enjoy cosmology and believe strongly in astrology, maintaining a handful of complex zodiacs. A few lunar nagas even bear knowledge of the unspeakable things from the dark spaces between the stars. A lunar naga stretches over 10 feet from its pale face to the tip of its tail, and weighs close to 200 pounds.
Nocturnal creatures, lunar nagas often live in ruined towers or atop mountains —any place open to the sky at night. There they peer through astrological devices, closely monitoring passing celestial markers, eager to decipher more of the universe. Those living underground make nightly trips to the open sky when they can. Cloudy nights make lunar nagas agitated, and a creature is more likely to run afoul of a lunar naga on these dark evenings.
Lunar nagas sometimes lead small cults of sky-watchers. These followers aid the nagas in recording tome upon tome of calculations of the stars and planets moving through the inky black of the night sky. In small doses tempered with water, fruit juices, and alcohol, lunar naga venom is mildly hallucinogenic. The nagas’ cultist allies often take the substance as a ritualistic drug.
