Biting Blade

Biting Blade enchants one bladed weapon so its next successful strike tears far deeper than normal. It is preserved as a legacy d20 Witch and Cleric spell.

On the weapon’s next successful hit, it deals an additional 1d8 points of slashing or piercing damage, as appropriate to the weapon, plus 1 point per caster level to a maximum +10. The spell then ends.
The legacy spell has no effect on undead or constructs.
Edition Boundary
The single-hit bonus damage is a legacy mechanic. Modern editions use their own weapon-buff spells and should not inherit this damage progression automatically.
Using Biting Blade in Play
Biting Blade is a preparation spell for one decisive weapon hit. Cast it when an ally is likely to connect with a high-value target soon, not at the start of a long fight where the enchanted weapon may never land the strike that discharges it.
Counterplay and Related Magic
The spell ends on the next successful hit and has no effect on undead or constructs under the legacy rules. Compare Magic Weapon for a longer-lasting weapon enhancement.
