A gladius is a larger version of the short sword. Characters proficient with the gladius may treat it as a short sword for purposes of any of the following feats: Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical, Weapon Focus, & Weapon Specialization. Gladius became the general Latin word for “sword”. In the Roman Republic it referred specifically to the short sword, used by Roman legionaries.
