Colossus (Piotr “Peter” Nikolayevich Rasputin) is a fictional superhero appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum, he first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975).

A Russian mutant, Colossus possesses the ability to transform his entire body into ‘organic steel,’ a state that grants him vast superhuman strength and invulnerablity. Despite his intimidating appearance and occasional outbursts of rage, Colossus is actually one of the gentlest and least-aggressive X-Men and would much prefer to pursue his long-time interest in painting rather than fight. He reluctantly agrees to use his powers in combat, feeling it is his responsibility to utilize his abilities for the betterment of human and mutant kind.

Even when his powers are not engaged, he is still a physically imposing figure of 6 ft 7 in (200 cm). He is portrayed as quiet, honest and virtuous. He has had a fairly consistent presence in X-Men-related comic books since his debut.

Magic Bane

The armored form of Colossus is highly resistant to magic spells and weapons; he also causes disruptions in the bodies and minds of those using magic of any type.

  • Colossus receives a +4 on all saves against spells.
  • Colossus inflicts 2d6 additional damage on magical creatures and spellcasters.

Organic Steel

Piotr possesses the ability to transform him into organic steel at will. This is a free action for Colossus as he can react to threats instantly. In his armored form Colossus has demonstrated no need to eat, drink, or breathe, as well as the ability to survive in a vacuum. When in his human form Piotr has Strength 22, Dexterity 14, Constitution 20, 48 WP, and 171 VP.

When in his armored form Colossus receives a saving throw against any effect that requires a Fortitude save; he suffers no damage if successful. If he fails, he only suffers half damage.

Colossus is resistant to critical strikes; he is considered to have fortification of 95%.

Superhuman Strength

Level 4 In his armored form Colossus possesses superhuman Strength, making him one of the strongest mutants on Earth. Additionally, Colossus possesses a slam attack which inflicts 4d6 damage. Colossus natural attacks count as adamantium.

  • +8 bonus on melee attack damage
  • +4 bonus on grapple and overrun checks.

Drawbacks

Colossus steel body is vulnerable to magnetic assaults. Any magnetic attack bypasses his energy resistances. He receives a -10 penalty on any saving throws to resist magnetic attacks.

If Colossus is damaged by a heat attack and cold attack in the same round, his superheated skin may be solidified, causing complete paralyzation if he doesn’t make a Fortitude save (DC 10+ total damage received).
