Giant Eagle
“Discover the Majestic Giant Eagle: The Ultimate Guardian of the Skies!”
Appearance: The Giant Eagle is a truly majestic creature, standing taller than the average human, with an enormous wingspan stretching over 20 feet from tip to tip. Its feathers, a mix of dark brown and white, create a striking contrast that is both intimidating and awe-inspiring. The crown and neck of the eagle are a brilliant gold, catching the sunlight and giving the creature an ethereal glow. Its eyes, a clear sapphire blue, are sharp and piercing, reflecting the vastness of the sky itself. The beak and talons, a powerful black, are sharp and deadly, a testament to the eagle’s prowess as a predator.
Behavior: Giant Eagles are known for their noble and dignified behavior. They are intelligent creatures, capable of understanding the languages of Giant Eagles, Auran, Celestial, and Common, although they can’t speak them. Despite their formidable size and strength, they are generally calm and composed. However, when their territory or young are threatened, they can become formidable opponents, defending their domain with fierce determination. This behavior is a testament to their protective nature and their commitment to their offspring.
Habitat: High mountains and hills are the preferred habitats of Giant Eagles. They build their nests on tall cliff faces, away from the reach of most predators. These locations offer them a wide view of their territory and the freedom to soar in the open skies. They prefer areas that are away from civilization, where the air is clean and the environment is peaceful. This preference shows their love for solitude and their need for a tranquil environment.
Modus Operandi: In combat, the Giant Eagle uses its powerful talons and sharp beak as its primary weapons. It is known for its ability to swoop down on its enemies with great speed and precision, striking with its talons and then quickly taking to the air again. The Giant Eagle has a keen sight, making it a formidable creature in battle. This modus operandi showcases the eagle’s strategic thinking and its mastery of aerial combat.
Motivation: The Giant Eagle, being a neutral good creature, is often motivated by the preservation of balance and justice. They are known to aid those who seek to uphold these values. Despite their formidable power, they are not aggressive creatures and prefer to avoid unnecessary conflict. However, when the balance of nature is threatened, they will not hesitate to use their power to restore it. Their ultimate motivation is to maintain the harmony between the celestial and terrestrial realms, and to protect their territory and young. This motivation reveals their deep sense of duty and their commitment to the preservation of nature and balance.

COMBAT
A giant eagle typically attacks from a great height, diving earthward at tremendous speed. When it cannot dive, it uses its powerful talons and slashing beak to strike at its target’s head and eyes.
A solitary giant eagle is typically hunting or patrolling in the vicinity of its nest and generally ignores creatures that do not appear threatening. A mated pair attacks in concert, making repeated diving attacks to drive away intruders, and fights to the death to defend their nest or hatchlings.
Evasion (Ex): With a successful Reflex save against an attack that allows a Reflex save for half damage, a giant eagle takes no damage.
Skills: Giant eagles have a +4 racial bonus on Spot checks.
TRAINING A GIANT EAGLE
Although intelligent, a giant eagle requires training before it can bear a rider in combat. To be trained, a giant eagle must have a friendly attitude toward the trainer (this can be achieved through a successful Diplomacy check). Training a friendly giant eagle requires six weeks of work and a DC 25 Handle Animal check.
Riding a giant eagle requires an exotic saddle. A giant eagle can fight while carrying a rider, but the rider cannot also attack unless he or she succeeds on a Ride check.
Giant eagle eggs are worth 2,500 gp apiece on the open market, while chicks are worth 4,000 gp each. Professional trainers charge 1,000 gp to rear or train a giant eagle.
Carrying Capacity: A light load for a giant eagle is up to 300 pounds; a medium load, 301-600 pounds; and a heavy load, 601-900 pounds.

These enormous birds are among the most common aerial mounts, though they are unlikely to serve an evil master. Their keen eyesight makes them exceptionally useful for scouts.
Eggs
For those beasts that are hatched from eggs, buying one as an egg is the cheapest means of procuring one. Additionally, being with the creature from the moment it hatches will help beast and owner bond. However, successfully raising an egg, keeping it viable until the creature within does hatch, is a difficult business, particularly with some of the more exotic beasts which require unusual and specific circumstances to incubate. The Beast Within does offer incubation services to its customers, making it far more likely the dearly-bought egg will survive to hatch.
Giant Eagle Egg: 2,500 gp
Young
Purchasing a creature when it is young and immature is more expensive than purchasing it when it is still in the egg, but also has two distinct advantages. The first and most obvious is that the creature has already successfully hatched, while purchasing an egg means gambling the creature will survive. The second is that the creature is old enough to be trained, meaning it is much closer to being able to serve the buyer as a mount, pack animal or guardian beast.
Giant Eagle Young: 4,000 gp
Training
Left untrained, a beast like a giant eagle is worse than useless it is dangerous. A skilled trainer is able to teach the creature to serve a human master, though the necessary training regimen varies wildly from creature to creature. The price listed for training includes any potential healing needs the trainer may have in the course of working with the beast.
