(Dinosaur) Bambiraptor, the Swift Claw
“Meet Bambiraptor—the pint-sized predator that outsmarts and outruns everything in its path!”
Bambiraptor is a small, sleek dinosaur roughly the size of a large dog, standing about 3 feet tall and 6 feet long including its tail. Its body is covered in fine feathers, with long, curved claws on its hands and feet—most notably a sickle-shaped claw on each foot. Its large eyes suggest keen eyesight, and its narrow snout is filled with sharp, serrated teeth.
Behaviour:
Bambiraptor is an intelligent and curious hunter, often observed using quick, calculated strikes rather than brute force. It moves with surprising speed and agility, using its tail for balance during rapid turns and leaps. Highly social for a predator, it sometimes hunts in small packs or pairs, communicating through chirps and low growls.
Habitat:
This dinosaur favors dense forests and river valleys, where thick undergrowth provides cover for stalking prey. It thrives in temperate climates with abundant small animals and occasional larger herbivores.
Modus Operandi:
Bambiraptor stalks silently, relying on stealth and its sharp senses to ambush prey. It uses its sickle claws to deliver precise slashing attacks, often aiming for vulnerable spots like the throat or underbelly. When threatened, it prefers to escape but can become fiercely defensive if cornered, using hit-and-run tactics to confuse and wear down attackers.
Motivation:
Survival and efficiency drive Bambiraptor. It seeks to avoid unnecessary fights, preserving energy and minimizing risk while maintaining territory and access to food. It also shows a surprising level of curiosity, sometimes investigating unfamiliar objects or creatures with cautious interest.

Traits
Pack Coordination.
Bambiraptor has advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the Bambiraptor’s allies is within 5 feet of the creature and isn’t incapacitated.
Pounce.
If Bambiraptor moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a Talon Slash on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, Bambiraptor may make one additional Bite attack as a bonus action.
Keen Senses.
Bambiraptor has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight or smell.
Clever Hunter.
Bambiraptor can take the Hide action as a bonus action in forested terrain.
Actions
Multiattack.
Bambiraptor makes two melee attacks: one with its Talon Slash and one with its Bite.
- Talon Slash. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) slashing damage. - Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Bonus Actions
Blur of Feathers (Recharge 5–6).
Bambiraptor moves up to its speed without provoking opportunity attacks. During this movement, it may pass through the space of creatures one size larger without penalty. If it ends its movement within 5 feet of a creature it didn’t attack this turn, it gains advantage on its next Stealth check made that round.
Tactics
- Ambush Specialist: It strikes from cover, often using the Hide bonus action before combat starts.
- Hit and Fade: Uses Pounce to knock enemies down, then retreats using Blur of Feathers if outnumbered.
- Pack Tactics: When encountered in groups of 2–4, Bambiraptors coordinate strikes to isolate weak targets.
- Scouting Use: A single Bambiraptor may serve as a scout for larger predators or territorial encounters.
Encounter Notes
- Environment: Temperate forests, floodplains, jungle underbrush
- Tactical Rating: Moderate threat in open spaces; dangerous in close terrain or at night
- CR Scaling: Swarms of 3–5 can challenge parties of level 2–3
- Variant Behavior: May be trained or magically bonded as a familiar or companion for druids, rangers, or ancient guardians
