Megalosaurus is a towering predator reaching lengths of up to 30 feet. It boasts a massive skull lined with serrated, dagger-like teeth designed for tearing flesh. Its powerful jaws open wide enough to crush bone, while muscular hind legs propel it with surprising speed. Its forelimbs are relatively short but end in three sharp claws capable of slashing prey. Thick, scaly skin with muted earthy tones camouflages it among the Jurassic forest undergrowth.
Behaviour
This apex predator is solitary and territorial, patrolling large hunting grounds to avoid rivals. Megalosaurus exhibits keen intelligence compared to many beasts, using ambush tactics and persistence to wear down prey. It is patient, often stalking victims for hours before striking with a sudden burst of power. Vocalizations include low roars and growls used to intimidate or communicate territory claims.
Habitat
Megalosaurus favors dense, humid floodplain forests rich in herbivorous dinosaurs and other prey. It thrives in regions with abundant water sources and thick vegetation, which provide ample cover for stalking. Fossil evidence suggests it ranged widely, adapting to various Jurassic environments across what is now Europe.
Modus Operandi
Megalosaurus hunts by stealth and brute force. It prefers ambushing prey, using its keen senses to close distance unseen. Once engaged, it uses its powerful bite to immobilize or kill, often targeting the neck or flanks. Its claws provide secondary attacks to slash and incapacitate. When wounded or facing danger, it may roar loudly to intimidate or retreat strategically, always seeking to conserve its strength for the next hunt.
Motivation
Survival and dominance drive the Megalosaurus. It maintains territorial control primarily to ensure access to prey and mating opportunities. While not inherently aggressive toward all creatures, it defends its domain fiercely against competitors or threats. Its motivation lies in persistence—whether stalking prey or avoiding injury—and in ensuring its continued rule as a top predator of the Jurassic wilds.

Keen Smell. The megalosaurus has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Actions
Multiattack. It makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
- Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage.
- Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage.
- Frightful Presence. Each creature of the megalosaurus’s choice that is within 120 feet of the megalosaurus and aware of it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the megalosaurus’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
Legendary Actions
The megalosaurus can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The megalosaurus regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Move. The megalosaurus moves up to half its speed.
Attack. The megalosaurus makes one claw attack or one bite attack.
Challenging Roar (Costs 2 Actions). Each creature of the megalosaurus’s choice within 120 feet of it and aware of it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the megalosaurus’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
“Meet the Ancient King of Predators: Megalosaurus!”
This large bipedal reptile is obviously a predator, as indicated by its long jaws and knife-like teeth. Its arms are powerfully muscled and bear three claws. Small studs of bone run in lines on either side of its back.
The Megalosaurus is a prehistoric dinosaur from the Jurassic period, known for its fearsome appearance and formidable size. It measures around 30 feet in length and stands about 10 feet tall at the hip. Its body is built like a massive, predatory machine, with powerful limbs and a long, muscular tail.
This ancient reptile has a large head filled with sharp, serrated teeth designed for tearing into prey. Its eyes are set forward, giving it binocular vision to accurately judge distances when hunting. Its a carnivorous predator, and its keen sense of smell aids in tracking and locating potential meals.
One of its most distinctive features is its robust body, adorned with rough, pebbly skin that provides a layer of protection. Its limbs end in three large, clawed toes that give it a firm grip on the ground. The Megalosaurus is a swift and agile predator, capable of pursuing and taking down smaller dinosaurs with ease.
Despite its age, the Megalosaurus remains a symbol of ancient strength and predatory prowess, making it a fascinating subject of study for paleontologists and a source of wonder for those who delve into Earth’s prehistoric past.

COMBAT
Megalosaurs hunt not by speed or stealth but by sheer persistence. A pack will overwhelm a potential target, biting it multiple times with one or two grabbing hold to slow they prey down. After a few successful attacks, the pack retreats, waiting for their victim to bleed to death before moving in to feast.
Improved Grab (Ex): In order to use this ability, a megalosaurus must hit with a claw attack. If it hits, it can make a grapple check as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If it gets a hold, it deals automatic bite damage each round.
Lacerate (Ex): The bites of a megalosaurus leave deep, bleeding wounds. Any creature injured by its bite attack takes an additional 1 point of damage each round from the bleeding until the wound is bound (Heal check DC 15) or the target dies. This damage stacks from multiple attacks; for example, a creature bitten three times by a megalosaurus bleeds for 3 points of damage each round.
Skills: A megalosaurus receives a +2 racial bonus on all Listen and Spot checks.
