Tabaldak is a revered and enigmatic figure within the spiritual traditions of the Abenaki and Algonquian peoples. Known as the “Dust Maker” and “The Androgynous One,” Tabaldak is the creator deity responsible for the birth of the world and its inhabitants. With the power to shape reality, Tabaldak crafted the world from dust and gave birth to two brothers, Gluskab and Malsumis, who were tasked with shaping the future of the Earth.
As the embodiment of both male and female energies, Tabaldak transcends the conventional binary, representing a harmonious balance between creation and destruction. Their role as the creator god extends to ensuring the continued balance of life, fertility, and renewal across the world. Tabaldakās power is felt in everything from the dust storms and earthquakes that mark their presence, to the blessings of prosperity bestowed upon hunters, farmers, and all those who seek fertility and life.
Tabaldak is a primordial androgynous deity revered for their role as the creator and sustainer of life. They forged the world from dust, imbuing it with a balance of life, destruction, and transformation. Tabaldak’s primary purpose is to maintain the harmony of creation by ensuring the fertility of the land, the birth of new life, and the prosperity of its inhabitants. As a deity who embodies both creation and destruction, Tabaldak is responsible for guiding the world through cycles of renewal and balance. Their influence is seen in both gentle and mighty manifestations, from the breeze that whispers wisdom to the earth-shattering tremors that signal their presence.
Tabaldakās ultimate goal is to preserve the equilibrium of the world. They understand that the survival and well-being of all creatures are interwoven, and thus, the prosperity of one is vital to the prosperity of all. While their actions may seem unpredictable, such as causing earthquakes or dust storms, they are always in service of maintaining cosmic balance. Through their divine presence, Tabaldak seeks to protect and guide the interconnected web of life, ensuring that the forces of creation and destruction remain in harmony.
Hopes and Actions:
Tabaldakās actions are driven by a deep commitment to balance. They bring prosperity to those who honor them, ensuring fertile crops, bountiful hunts, and the growth of new life. However, their interventions in the form of natural disasters or shifts in the environment serve as reminders of the fragility of life and the necessity of maintaining harmony. By watching over the Earth, Tabaldak strives to ensure that the cycles of lifeābirth, death, and rebirthācontinue unbroken, for it is through these cycles that creation thrives. Tabaldakās greatest hope is that all beings, through the worship and respect of their power, come to understand the interconnectedness of all life and the importance of preserving the natural balance.

Traits
Divine Aura. Any hostile creature that starts its turn within 120 feet of Tabaldak must succeed on a DC 27 Wisdom saving throw or be overwhelmed by the balance of creation and destruction, becoming incapacitated until the end of their turn. Creatures that save against this effect are immune to it for 24 hours.
Creatorās Will. Tabaldakās spells, attacks, and abilities ignore resistances, and treat immunities as resistances, for creatures below CR 30.
Perfect Balance. When Tabaldak takes damage, they can transfer half the damage to another creature within 120 feet (no save). If no creature is within range, the damage instead fuels the surrounding land, causing spontaneous creation of flora and fauna.
Cosmic Balance (Passive).
When Tabaldak is present, reality is altered to reflect perfect equilibrium. All creatures within 300 feet automatically succeed on saving throws against death and cannot benefit from advantage or suffer disadvantage on any rolls, as all outcomes are guided toward balance.
Creationās Ward (Passive).
Tabaldak cannot be surprised, and they automatically detect any hostile intent or action within 1 mile. In addition, whenever they are targeted by a spell, they may choose to reflect it back at its caster unless it is of 9th level or higher.
Deific Presence (Passive).
Non-deity creatures that attempt to harm Tabaldak must succeed on a DC 30 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to willingly attack or harm them for 24 hours.
Shaper of Worlds (Mythic Trait).
Upon reaching 0 hit points for the first time, Tabaldak is restored to full hit points, and their aura expands to 1 mile. All creatures within the area must succeed on a DC 30 Constitution saving throw or be turned into harmless, inanimate objects for 24 hours (e.g., trees, rocks, or streams).
Innate Spellcasting. Tabaldakās spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 30). They can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:
- At will: create or destroy water, druidcraft, guidance, mending, mold earth, shape water, control flames, speak with animals, detect magic, guiding bolt
- 3/day each: control weather, heal, resurrection, plane shift, wall of thorns, greater restoration, mass cure wounds, conjure woodland beings, conjure animals, hallow, wall of stone
- 2/day each: tsunami, sunbeam, regenerate, reverse gravity, storm of vengeance, planar ally (often summoning Gluskab or other spirits of creation for aid), gate
- 1/day each: true resurrection, miracle (homebrew), wish, prismatic wall, foresight, true polymorph, meteor swarm
Unique Homebrew Spells:
- Balance Shift (9th Level):
- Casting Time: 1 Action
- Range: 300 ft.
- Effect: Tabaldak designates two creatures or forces within range and redistributes their current hit points, abilities, or statuses to equalize them. For instance, one creature loses hit points while another regains the same amount. The shift is cosmic and unavoidable unless resisted by a DC 30 Wisdom saving throw.
- World Shape (10th Level):
- Effect: Tabaldak can reshape terrain, alter ecosystems, or instantly create structures such as mountains, forests, or rivers. Entire environments can be harmonized or destroyed, depending on their will.
- Casting Time: 1 Minute
- Range: 1 Mile
Legendary Resistance (5/Day). If Tabaldak fails a saving throw, they can choose to succeed instead.
Actions
Multiattack. Tabaldak makes three Dust Lash attacks or uses their Hand of Creation.
Dust Lash. Melee Weapon Attack: +18 to hit, reach 30 ft., one target. Hit: 50 (8d8 + 9) radiant damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 27 Strength saving throw or be thrown 50 feet in a direction of Tabaldakās choice.
Hand of Creation (Recharge 5ā6). Tabaldak conjures life or destruction within a 120-foot radius. Choose one effect:
- Creation: The area is filled with abundant plant life, creating difficult terrain. Creatures in the area regain 40 hit points at the start of their turns for 1 minute.
- Destruction: All creatures within the area must succeed on a DC 27 Constitution saving throw or take 70 (20d6) radiant damage and be blinded for 1 minute. A successful save halves the damage and prevents blindness.
Voice of the Creator (1/Day). Tabaldak speaks a single word of creation. All creatures of Tabaldakās choice within 300 feet must succeed on a DC 30 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned for 1 minute. Plants and structures within the area are reshaped or regrown as Tabaldak desires.
Legendary Actions
Tabaldak can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creatureās turn.
- Weave Creation. Tabaldak creates a 30-foot-radius area within 120 feet where creatures gain advantage on all saving throws until the end of Tabaldakās next turn.
- Dust Surge (Costs 2 Actions). Tabaldak releases a wave of energy, forcing all creatures within 60 feet to make a DC 27 Dexterity saving throw or take 35 (10d6) radiant damage and be knocked prone.
- Reclaim Life (Costs 2 Actions). Tabaldak chooses a creature within 120 feet. That creature regains all hit points and is cured of any curses, poisons, diseases, or other harmful effects.
- Renew Life (Costs 3 Actions). Tabaldak restores 100 hit points to all allies within 60 feet and ends all conditions affecting them.
- Shift Reality (Costs 3 Actions). Tabaldak warps the area in a 240-foot radius, creating an environment of lush, abundant nature or barren desolation. Allies within the area gain 20 temporary hit points and advantage on all saving throws, while enemies take 35 (10d6) radiant damage at the start of their turn.
Lair Actions
When fighting in their sacred groves or places of creation, Tabaldak can invoke the magic of the area. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), they can use a lair action:
- Sacred Rebirth. One creature Tabaldak can see within the lair is instantly healed to full hit points and freed from curses or other afflictions.
- Nature’s Wrath. Vines and roots erupt in a 60-foot radius, restraining creatures of Tabaldakās choice (DC 27 Strength save to escape).
- Elemental Renewal. Weather changes rapidly in the lair, granting allies advantage on attack rolls and imposing disadvantage on enemy ranged attacks.
Regional Effects
The area within 6 miles of a site sacred to Tabaldak is altered by their divine presence:
- Plants grow abundantly, and animals thrive in harmony.
- The weather is always temperate and favorable for growth.
- Creatures who rest here regain all hit points and conditions after a short rest.
- Plants and wildlife within 6 miles grow to extraordinary abundance, even in inhospitable environments. Food is always plentiful, and the weather is calm and temperate.
- Creatures traveling within the region are immune to exhaustion, hunger, or thirst.
- Once per day, a creature that completes a long rest within the region can choose to have a major life event guided by Tabaldak, resulting in a successful hunt, fertile crops, or harmonious outcomes.
If Tabaldak is defeated, these effects fade after 1d10 days.
Currently in the World
The sky rumbles with the voice of Tabaldak, the Androgynous One, as they watch the world from the edge of the unseen realm. Their gaze is unwavering, transcending time and space, as they see the ripple of change on the horizon. The world is ever-shifting, constantly in motion, like the dust that once formed it. In their hand, they hold the delicate thread of creation itself, weaving and unweaving the fabric of existence.
It is early spring in the northeastern forests, and the Abenaki people are gathered in a sacred grove. They know the winds are heavy with change. The hunters and gatherers, the farmers and fishermen, feel a growing restlessness in the air. They sense that Tabaldak is near, that the great creator is watching over them. Tabaldakās influence is always subtle, but today, their presence is undeniable. The dust in the air stirs, a soft breeze caresses the earth, and the ground trembles faintly. In these quiet signs, the people see the deityās powerāa reminder of their role as the stewards of the worldās balance.
Tabaldak has always been a figure of paradox. Neither male nor female, they are both and neither, existing beyond human understanding, a blend of energies that form the very essence of creation. The brothersāGluskab, the creator of culture and order, and Malsumis, the trickster and bringer of chaosāhave long been Tabaldakās children, and their rivalry continues to shape the world. While Gluskab seeks peace and harmony, Malsumis stirs conflict and disruption, pushing the world toward unpredictable ends. Tabaldak does not intervene directly in their squabbles; instead, they stand as the silent mediator, the force that ensures neither creation nor destruction runs unchecked.
As the world turns, Tabaldak watches the rise of civilizations, the birth of new nations, and the slow encroachment of foreign settlers into the lands that were once untouched. The arrival of new peoplesāfirst the Europeans, then othersābrings both hope and sorrow. Tabaldak knows that change is inevitable, but the balance must be preserved. The settlers bring with them not just their tools and animals, but new ways of thinking, of farming, of exploiting the land. They disrupt the natural order, pushing past the boundaries that the earthās spirit had long respected. The winds grow heavy with the scent of iron, and the earth groans underfoot.
Tabaldak does not fear change, but they mourn the imbalance that it often brings. The people of the land, the indigenous tribes, are in turmoil. Their sacred ways, rooted deeply in the soil and the rivers, face destruction, but Tabaldak will not let them fall so easily. The deity watches over the elders, the shamans, the spiritual leaders who continue to commune with the land, who still listen to the whispers of the trees and the songs of the winds. It is through them that Tabaldak ensures the balance is not lost, though the struggle is fierce.
In the years leading up to the 1450s, Tabaldak sees the world shift in ways they cannot stop, but they can guide. The forests are cleared to make way for settlements, the rivers are dammed, and animals are hunted without restraint. The natural world, once a thriving network of interconnected beings, begins to show signs of distress. Yet, in the distance, new life still arises. The forests, though scarred, start to reclaim their space, and new generations of animals take their place in the cycle of life.
Tabaldakās role is never to intervene directly in the wars and skirmishes between the humans and settlers, but to watch over the earth, ensuring that the planet itself remains whole. The earthquakes they cause are not randomāthey shake the ground to remind the people of their power and to nudge them toward understanding. The dust storms that roll across the plains are not only signs of wrath but reminders of the power of creation itself, that all things are made of dust, and all things will return to it.
The deityās motivations are clear: they desire balance above all. Change is not to be feared, but it must be embraced without forsaking the sacred ties to the land and its creatures. Tabaldak understands that all thingsāhumans, animals, plantsāare part of an intricate web, and that when one strand is broken, the entire web falters. Their actions in the world are meant to keep the balance intact, to prevent one forceāwhether of creation or destructionāfrom tipping the scale too far.
As the 1450s approach, Tabaldak knows that the world is on the cusp of an even greater shift. The coming centuries will bring more disruption, more imbalance, but they also hold the promise of renewal. Tabaldak will continue to watch, continue to guide, but they will never impose their will. Instead, they will whisper to the wind, shake the ground, and stir the dust, leaving subtle signs for those wise enough to understand. In this way, they will ensure that the cycle of life and death, destruction and rebirth, creation and decay, never ceases. And in this ever-turning wheel, the balance will remaināfor as long as Tabaldak watches, creation will always be possible.
