Backstory: Lohengrin is a character from German Arthurian literature, first appearing in Wolfram von Eschenbach’s epic poem “Parzival.” The story tells of a young woman named Elsa who is falsely accused of murder. Lohengrin, a knight of the grail, comes to her defense in a boat pulled by swans and agrees to clear her name on the condition that she never ask his identity. Elsa agrees and he successfully proves her innocence. However, Elsa’s curiosity gets the better of her and she eventually asks Lohengrin his name and lineage, at which point he reveals that he is a member of the grail family and must return to his mystical home.

The story of Lohengrin has been adapted into various forms of media such as operas and films, with one of the most famous adaptations being the opera “Lohengrin” by German composer Richard Wagner.
