Background: Folk Hero. Lemminkäinen has an affinity with the common folk and a reputation for helping them. He is proficient in Animal Handling and gains the Rustic Hospitality feature.


Multiattack. Lemminkäinen makes three melee attacks or three ranged attacks. He can also use his Storm of Blades ability if it’s available.

  • Battleaxe. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (1d8 + 4) slashing damage.
  • Javelin. Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 30/120 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d6 + 3) piercing damage.
  • Storm of Blades (Recharge 5-6). He throws his enchanted blades into the air, causing them to swirl around him. Each creature of his choice within 10 feet of him must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 21 (6d6) slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Lemminkäinen can’t use this ability again until he completes a short or long rest.

Legendary Actions

Lemminkäinen can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Lemminkäinen regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

  • Battle Cry. He lets out a powerful battle cry, granting advantage on the next attack roll made by him or an ally within 30 feet.
  • Blade Dance. He moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
  • Heroic Strike (Costs 2 Actions). Lemminkäinen makes one Battleaxe attack.


Evasion. When subjected to an effect that allows him to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, Lemminkäinen instead takes no damage on a successful save and half damage on a failed save.

Equipment. Chain shirt, battleaxe, javelins (5), enchanted throwing blades, a hunting horn, a charm from the Maidens of Pohjola, a pouch with 25 gp.

Special Traits

  • Enchanted Throwing Blades. Lemminkäinen’s throwing blades are magical and return to him after being thrown, allowing him to use them in subsequent attacks without limitation.
  • Charm of the Maidens of Pohjola. This charm grants Lemminkäinen advantage on Charisma checks when dealing with female characters and creatures.
  • Swimming Mastery. Lemminkäinen is an excellent swimmer and can swim at his full speed without checks. He can hold his breath for up to 15 minutes.
  • Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If Lemminkäinen fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.

When encountered in his natural environment, such as the wilderness of Finland or amidst the icy waters, Lemminkäinen can take lair actions. On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Lemminkäinen takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:

  • Summon Icy Waters. Lemminkäinen conjures a freezing wave of water in a 60-foot radius centered on himself. Each creature within the area must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone and take 15 (3d8 + 2) cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage and avoid being knocked prone on a successful one.
  • Blizzard Winds. Lemminkäinen calls upon the power of the winter winds to create a swirling blizzard in a 60-foot radius centered on himself. All ranged weapon attacks made within this area are made at disadvantage for 1 minute.
  • Tales of Heroism. Lemminkäinen regales those in the area with heroic tales of his adventures. All friendly creatures within 60 feet of him gain advantage on their next attack roll or saving throw.
