Tritons, Guardians of the Depths
Noble sea guardians with a god-complex, Tritons bring oceanic fury and royal swagger to dry land!
Tritons are regal, aquatic humanoids known for their deep connection to the oceans and their commanding presence both beneath the waves and on land. They are striking in appearance, with smooth, scaly skin in hues of deep blue, sea green, or even vibrant coral colors. Their hair, often described as flowing kelp or seaweed, shimmers in shades of silver or green, and their eyes glow with the luminescence of bioluminescent creatures.
Their lithe yet muscular build, reminiscent of merfolk but with a more humanoid frame, allows them to glide through water effortlessly. They typically stand around 6 to 7 feet tall, with webbed hands and feet, and sharp, fin-like protrusions along their backs and arms that help with swift movement in water.
Behaviorally, Tritons are a blend of stoic nobility and fierce protectiveness. They are known for their intelligence, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of honor. As guardians of the oceans, they often appear reserved and formal but can become deadly in the defense of their homeland. Their interactions with other races can range from dignified diplomacy to a cold disdain for those who disrespect the seas. While generally peaceful, they are unyielding in their duty to protect the seas and the creatures that live within it, often seeing themselves as the rightful rulers of the underwater realms.
Tritons are most commonly found in deep oceanic cities, often in hidden, underwater palaces made from coral and ancient stone, or in cities that float near the surface. These places are built with both beauty and function in mind, blending seamlessly into the natural environment. However, Tritons have also been known to form small, isolated communities along coastal areas, especially when the sea itself is threatened by external forces like pirates or monstrous incursions. They tend to avoid heavily populated urban centers, preferring the tranquility and isolation of their watery homes.
Their modus operandi is based on vigilance and protection. Tritons are excellent strategists, using their understanding of the sea’s currents and ecosystems to outmaneuver their enemies. They rely on their powerful aquatic abilities, such as breathing underwater, swimming at great speeds, and wielding water-based magic, to defend their territories. When on land, they carry the same air of command, often serving as diplomats, mercenaries, or advisors when needed. They will not hesitate to call upon their natural allies, such as aquatic beasts or elementals, in times of conflict.
The primary motivation of a Triton is the preservation and defense of the oceans and their ancient traditions. Driven by a sense of duty to their people and the natural world, Tritons seek to maintain balance in their watery domains. Their actions are often influenced by a deep reverence for the ancient sea gods they worship, and many strive to honor their ancestral legacy. They view their presence on land as both a necessary evil and a means to safeguard the future of the seas, ensuring that those who threaten the ocean’s peace are dealt with swiftly and decisively.

- Defensive Mastery. When surrounded, the Triton will activate Waveborn Defense to hinder attacks against it and attempt to control the flow of the battle. It will use Water Surge to disrupt groups of enemies and make tactical retreats when necessary.
- Water Magic. In difficult situations, the Triton will use its innate magic to either retreat with Misty Step or gain a strategic advantage with Tidal Wave to disrupt large groups of enemies.
- Morale and Command. The Triton often serves as the leader or advisor of aquatic or coastal tribes, and it will fight fiercely for its people. If it believes a battle is lost, it will prioritize protecting its allies and retreating to fight another day.
- Motivation. The Triton’s primary goal is to protect the oceans and all creatures within them, ensuring balance between land and sea. While on land, it may pursue this goal through diplomacy, defending coastal cities, or striking down those who harm the sea. Its deep reverence for ancient sea gods fuels its unyielding drive to protect its home.
ENVIRONMENT
Tritons are found in coastal regions, secluded island settlements, or hidden underwater cities. They prefer environments where they can control access, such as hidden caves or ancient submerged ruins. When encountered on land, they might be found leading expeditions to protect the seas or participating in coastal defense missions.

Tritons are a sea race born from Poseidon‘s and Amphitrite’s son Triton. Triton lives with his parents, Poseidon and Amphitrite, in a golded palace on the bottom of the sea. Triton was the trumpeter of the Sea, which was made out of a great shell, known as a concha. He blows this shell throughout the sea to calm the waves, or stir them up, all at the command of Poseidon.
Tritones are roughly human-sized. Tritons have silvery skin that fades into silver-blue scales on the lower half of their bodies. There lower half ends in two finned legs, while its torso, head, and arms are human. Their hair is deep blue or blue-green.
A triton is about the same size and weight as a human.
