Qlippoth, Augnagar

The Augnagar is a formidable Qlippoth entity embodying the primal chaos and malevolence of the Abyss.

Appearance

The Augnagar is an immense, spider-like creature with eight swollen legs connected by leathery, bat-like wings, granting it the ability to fly. Its form is further accentuated by three long, stinger-tipped tails and a massive, rot-dripping jaw beneath a cluster of six glaring eyes. Measuring a wingspan of 30 feet and weighing approximately 6,000 pounds, its grotesque visage is enough to drive onlookers to madness.

Behavior

Despite its limited intelligence, the Augnagar is a relentless predator. It clings to the walls and ceilings of the deepest Abyssal rifts, lying in wait for prey. Driven by an insatiable hunger, it feeds on anything it can overpower, showing a particular preference for the flesh of demons and even other Qlippoth. This cannibalistic tendency is not just for sustenance but serves a greater purpose in its life cycle.

Habitat

Augnagars dwell in the deepest, most treacherous regions of the Abyss, often in solitude. Their lairs are typically found clinging to the ceilings of vast chasms or lurking within the shadows of the Outer Rifts, areas so remote and perilous that even demons tread cautiously.

Modus Operandi

In combat, the Augnagar employs a combination of brute strength and supernatural abilities. It uses its massive jaws to deliver bites that inflict a rotting curse, causing festering wounds that exude a horrific stench, debilitating its victims. Its horrific appearance can induce madness, leaving foes confused and vulnerable. The creature’s ability to fly and cling to surfaces allows it to ambush prey from unexpected angles.

Motivation

The Augnagar’s primary drive is its ravenous appetite, particularly for the flesh of demons and fellow Qlippoth. This consumption is not merely for sustenance; when an Augnagar has devoured enough of its kin, it undergoes a grotesque transformation, tearing itself apart to give birth to a more powerful entity known as a Thulgant. This metamorphosis signifies the Augnagar’s role in the Qlippoth’s overarching goal: the eradication of demons and the reclamation of the Abyss.

In essence, the Augnagar is a terrifying embodiment of the Qlippoth’s ancient and alien nature, serving as both a predator and a vessel for their resurgence in the Abyss.

Traits

Horrific Appearance. Any creature that starts its turn within 30 feet of the augnagar and can see it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be confused for 1 minute. A creature that succeeds on this saving throw is immune to the augnagar’s Horrific Appearance for 24 hours.

Rotting Curse. A creature hit by the augnagar’s bite attack must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or contract a rotting curse. While cursed, the creature takes 1d6 Constitution damage at the start of each of its turns and emits a horrific stench. All creatures within 30 feet of the cursed target must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be sickened until the start of their next turn. This stench also imposes disadvantage on the cursed creature’s Stealth checks.

Magic Resistance. The augnagar has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Magic Weapons. The augnagar’s weapon attacks are magical.

Actions

Multiattack. The augnagar makes one bite attack and three claw attacks.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d10 + 7) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) necrotic damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or be affected by the Rotting Curse.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 6) slashing damage.

Agonized Wail (Recharge 5–6). The augnagar emits a terrifying wail. Each creature within 120 feet that can hear it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Confusing Display (1/Day). The augnagar’s limbs writhe in a disorienting manner. Each creature within 30 feet that can see the augnagar must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be confused for 1 minute. While confused in this way, a creature can’t take reactions and must roll a d10 at the start of each of its turns to determine its behavior for that turn.

Legendary Actions

The augnagar can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The augnagar regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Claw Attack. The augnagar makes one claw attack.
  • Dimension Door (Costs 2 Actions). The augnagar magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 500 feet to an unoccupied space it can see.
  • Inhale Vitality (Costs 3 Actions). The augnagar inhales sharply, drawing life force from creatures in a 50-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw, taking 45 (10d8) necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Creatures that fail the save are also fatigued until the end of their next turn. The augnagar gains temporary hit points equal to half the total damage dealt.

Tactics

The augnagar prefers to ambush prey from above, using its climb and fly speeds to position itself strategically. It opens combat with Agonized Wail to instill fear, followed by Confusing Display to sow chaos among its enemies. It targets the most threatening foes with its Rotting Curse to weaken them over time. If severely injured, it uses Dimension Door to reposition or escape. The augnagar’s Inhale Vitality serves both as an area attack and a means to sustain itself during prolonged battles.
