Daeobelinus: The Razor-Wielding Demon Craftsmen of the Abyss

Daeobelinus: The Razor-Wielding Demon Craftsmen of the Abyss
Created with Grok

Daeobelinus are small, blue-skinned demons of the Abyss, known for their unparalleled craftsmanship, sinister cunning, and merciless bargains with mortals. Seemingly goblin-like but far more dangerous, they strike swiftly and efficiently, leaving corruption and terror behind.

Masters of dark labor, Daeobelinus construct vast infernal workshops, fashioning iron towers, weapons, and wicked devices for demon lords. Mortals who summon their aid often find tasks completed beyond imagination—but at a price that twists fate itself.

In their native Abyss, Daeobelinus serve as artisans, spies, torturers, and butchers. Their small size and malevolent intelligence allow them to infiltrate, manipulate, and overwhelm larger foes with careful planning and unerring efficiency.

Appearance

Standing no taller than three feet, Daeobelinus possess mottled blue skin, scabrous sores, and upswept ears framing burning red eyes. Their serpentine tongues flick unnervingly, while a crude belt of tools and a wicked cold-iron razor are their only adornments. Despite their diminutive size, their aura radiates raw malevolence.

Behaviour

They are cunning, spiteful, and manipulative, favoring indirect confrontation. They act with precision and speed, often calling allies to amplify their efforts, and show no hesitation in exacting vengeance when crossed.

Habitat

Native to the Abyss, Daeobelinus are often found in factories of iron and shadow, constructing palaces for demon lords. On rare occasions, they cross into the material plane through summoned pacts or hidden portals.

Modus Operandi

They complete tasks with unparalleled speed, striking deals with mortals in exchange for dark favors. In combat, they favor ambush, trickery, and the lethal use of their abyssal razors, exploiting fear and confusion rather than brute force.

Motivation

Driven by the pursuit of service to infernal masters and the continuation of their own kind, Daeobelinus seek both labor and souls, transforming kidnapped children into new demons if payment is granted.

Ecology

They sustain themselves on infernal energies and occasional mortal essences. In Abyssal factories, they operate in dense swarms, working cooperatively yet competitively, and are known to betray one another if advantageous.

Scholars & Rumours

Some sages claim Daeobelinus are the progenitors of goblinoid species, though their chaotic nature and Abyssal origin set them far apart. Others speculate that each child sacrificed to them is a blueprint for the next generation of demon artisans.

DESCRIPTION

These small blue-skinned fiends resemble twisted goblins with long upswept ears, scabrous skin, and burning red eyes. Their serpentine tongues flick constantly between jagged teeth while their clawed hands clutch belts heavy with tools and their prized abyssal razors.

Daeobelinus serve as artisans and laborers in the Abyss, constructing the iron boulevards, infernal fortresses, and towering citadels of demon lords. Despite their small stature, they possess supernatural skill with tools and metalwork, producing vast structures and devices with terrifying efficiency.

On the Material Plane, daeobelinus sometimes answer desperate mortal pleas for aid. They perform work faster and more expertly than any mortal craftsman—but always demand a dreadful payment. Those who refuse to honor such bargains often discover too late that daeobelinus delight in undoing their labor and exacting cruel vengeance upon the fool who summoned them.

Some sages claim these fiends were the primordial ancestors of goblinoids, though the demons themselves mock such theories with cruel amusement.

Mortals often find themselves in desperate situations – not life threatening, but where their reputation, business or something of the kind stands in jeopardy. Some mortals call out to their gods, while others are content to let fate decide. A few lazy, perhaps even impious, ones call out to anyone or anything to spare them the sweat of their labors. Daeobelinus answer these calls.

, sometimes believed to be helpful elves, brownies or fairy Gnomes, aid mortals in their labors. If the mortal agrees to accept their evil aid (a damning act in and of itself), they work quickly and expertly, faster than any mortal could ever hope to achieve. Upon completion of their work, they demand payment, which normally takes the form of a human child. If the mortal provides the child, the demons spirit it away tothe Abyss, where through depraved rituals, they transform the child into another daeobelinus. However, if the mortal refuses to give up the child, the daeobelinus undo everything they have done, and take the mortal’s nose forcalling them heedlessly.

In the Abyss, they function as craftsmen and artisans, constructing the vast palaces of the demon lords and generals. They build iron boulevards, erect great towers, and manufacture any number of commodities. Daeobelinus perform in other capacities, as well; they make for excellent spies and infiltrators, servants and even torturers – they make the best butchers.

Sages and theologians claim they are the primogenitor race of goblinoids. Both share many of the same features and attitudes, though these demons are far less predictable than goblins. Despite the physical similarities and penchant for wickedness, they actually have nothing in common.Daeobelinus speak Common and Abyssal.

Combat

Daeobelinus are crafty and spiteful little creatures preferring indirect fighting to face-to-face confrontations. They have no compunctions about quickly calling in their brethren for help. Once they expand their numbers, they set upon their foes with the same attention to detail they take in everything.

Abyssal Razor (Su): Amidst all of the daeobelinus’s tools, perhaps its razor is its most prized possession. Constructed of evil-imbued cold iron, it cuts through just about any defenses a celestial could offer. In addition to its normal damage, it damages a target’s mind with every successful strike, carving away the victim’s sanity along with his flesh. When the daeobelinus dies, the razor, along with all the other tools, melts into a pool of blood. Abyssal razors have 15 hardness and 5 hit points.

Summon (Sp): Once per day, a daeobelinus may attempt to summon 1d6 daeobelinus, 1 dretch, or 1 Quasit with a 75% chance for success. This ability is the equivalent of a 3rd-level spell.

Rapid Work (Su): Daeobelinus double the silver piece product of their Craft check multiplied by the DC of the task when determining how far along they are in crafting a particular item.

Skills: Daeobelinus have a +4 racial bonus to all Craft and move silently checks.
