Cacagnea, the Cosmic Annihilator
“Meet the Cacagnea: a colossal, reality-warping predator from the void that devours worlds and obliterates anything in its path!”
The Cacagnea is a massive, bird-like aberration with an unnerving appearance: its long, emaciated neck ends in a toothy beak, while its enormous wings stretch to nearly 150 feet across. Its body is covered in an unstable form of matter that continually shifts and distorts, making it an elusive and terrifying presence. A constant shimmering aura surrounds it, the force screen that shields it from direct physical contact and protects it from the corrosive nature of the universe itself.
Behaviorally, Cacagneas are solitary creatures that roam the void between worlds, consuming entire planets and matter to sustain themselves. They approach planetary atmospheres only when they need to feed, either in preparation for laying eggs or to nourish themselves. Their intelligence is dim but sufficient to allow them to target weaker prey, and when provoked, they will retreat or enter a suicidal rage if their protective force screen is disrupted.
Cacagneas have an insatiable hunger for destruction. They consume matter both directly and through their Annihilation Pulse, a devastating area attack that disintegrates anything it touches. Their modus operandi is driven by their need to destroy and absorb energy. Once prey is swallowed, it is subjected to a miniaturized force screen inside the creature’s stomach, rapidly breaking it down into atomic particles. As asexual beings, Cacagneas can reproduce without encountering another of their kind, though occasionally a pair may travel together.
Native to the empty void between stars, they only interact with planetary systems when they must feed or lay their eggs. The young are highly dependent on their parent for nourishment until they are capable of leaving their nest and ravaging the surrounding world themselves. Their motivation is purely survivalist: they are creatures of annihilation, compelled by their unstable nature to consume and destroy, ensuring their continued existence while leaving a trail of ruined worlds behind them.

TRAITS AND ABILITIES
Force Screen (Legendary Trait)
The Cacagnea is always surrounded by a shimmering blue force field, granting it the following benefits:
- +15 to AC and +5 to saving throws against all spells and effects.
- Damage Reduction 30/– (all damage, except force damage).
- Immunity to critical hits and force damage.
- This force screen can be disrupted temporarily by a Disintegrate spell or similar means, which disables the force screen for 1d4 rounds. Once disrupted, the Cacagnea enters a rage, becoming reckless but vulnerable.
Unstable Matter (Passive Trait)
The body of the Cacagnea is a volatile and unstable fusion of cosmic energy and matter. Any creature that comes into physical contact with the Cacagnea’s body or touches its wings takes 10d6 force damage. If the Cacagnea makes a melee attack, the target must also make a DC 19 Constitution saving throw or suffer 1d8 necrotic damage each round for 1 minute as the unstable energy seeps into their form.
Annihilation Pulse (Recharge 5-6)
Once every 1d4 rounds, the Cacagnea releases a wave of pure destructive energy in a 100-foot radius.
- Each creature in the area must make a DC 22 Constitution saving throw.
- On a failed save, a creature takes 30d10 force damage, and is disintegrated if reduced to 0 hit points, as per the Disintegrate spell.
- On a successful save, a creature takes half damage.
Swallow Whole (Recharge 4-6)
It can attempt to swallow a creature it has successfully grappled (size Huge or smaller). The target must succeed on a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be swallowed whole.
- The swallowed creature takes 66 (12d10 + 10) bludgeoning damage and 5d10 force damage per round.
- A creature swallowed in this manner is blinded, restrained, and unable to breathe, speak, or cast spells.
- The Cacagnea can hold only one creature inside its body at a time.
Starflight (Movement Ability)
The Cacagnea can survive in the vacuum of space. It moves through the cosmos effortlessly, able to travel across vast distances at high speeds.
- Travel Time: In a solar system, the Cacagnea can travel between planets in 3d20 hours.
- Space Travel: The Cacagnea moves through the void of space at speed 500 ft. per round.
ACTIONS
Multiattack
It makes two melee attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite (Melee Weapon Attack):
- +18 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target
- Hit: 35 (6d10 + 10) piercing damage, plus 15 (3d10) force damage, and the target must make a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be grappled by the Cacagnea.
Claw (Melee Weapon Attack):
- +16 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target
- Hit: 27 (4d8 + 10) slashing damage.
Wing Buffet (Melee Weapon Attack):
- +16 to hit, reach 30 ft., all creatures in a 20-foot line
- Hit: 25 (3d10 + 10) bludgeoning damage, and the target must make a DC 18 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
LEGENDARY ACTIONS
It can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one Legendary Action option can be used at a time, and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Cacagnea regains spent Legendary Actions at the start of its turn.
- Annihilation Pulse (Costs 2 Actions): The Cacagnea releases a small pulse of destructive energy in a 20-foot radius. Creatures must make a DC 22 Constitution saving throw or take 12d10 force damage, and half damage on a successful save.
- Flight (Costs 1 Action): The Cacagnea moves up to its movement speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
- Force Field Recharge (Costs 3 Actions): The Cacagnea regains its Force Screen, restoring it to full strength.
MYTHIC TRAITS
Self-Repairing Core (Mythic Trait)
Once per day, when the Cacagnea is reduced to 0 hit points, it can choose to use a Legendary Action to repair itself, regaining 50% of its maximum hit points as it taps into the core of its unstable matter.
LORE
The Cacagnea is a primordial being from the distant reaches of the cosmos, said to have been created by the collision of ancient stars and interdimensional rifts. Existing in a constant state of destabilization, it is an entity that devours both matter and energy, seeking to consume and annihilate everything in its path. It flies silently between the worlds, occasionally descending to planets on the brink of destruction, laying eggs in barren lands where its young can grow unfettered. The Cacagnea is one of the few creatures that defy the natural laws of physics, being a living paradox, a force of unrelenting destruction without true allegiance or purpose other than consumption.
REGIONAL EFFECTS
The area within 1 mile of a Cacagnea’s current location is warped by its presence, causing the following effects:
- Space Distortion: All creatures within the area of effect have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to detect creatures or objects.
- Gravity Flux: Gravity behaves erratically. All creatures within a 100-foot radius of the Cacagnea have their movement speed reduced by 10 feet, and all ranged attacks suffer disadvantage.
- Disintegrating Landscape: Plants and structures in the area begin to crumble and decay at an accelerated rate. Objects made of organic material have a 50% chance to crumble to dust each day.
RELATIONSHIPS AND WEAKNESSES
- Unstable Energy: While the Cacagnea is immensely powerful, its energy is a double-edged sword. Its force screen, when disrupted, causes the Cacagnea’s body to break down at a rapid rate. This makes it vulnerable to targeted attacks that disrupt its protective barrier.
- Isolationist Nature: The Cacagnea is a solitary predator and does not form lasting alliances. It only pairs up with others of its kind for reproduction and will not tolerate the presence of other powerful creatures near its feeding grounds.
- Celestial Enemy: The Cacagnea’s constant destruction attracts the attention of celestial entities who seek to eliminate it, often sending their champions or avatars to intercept it.
TREASURE
The Cacagnea may possess Cosmic Relics hidden in its lair:
- Annihilation Gem: A small shard of cosmic energy that can be used to augment weapons, granting them the ability to deal force damage or even disrupt magical barriers.
- Force Screen Crystals: Fragments of the Cacagnea’s force screen, which can be used to craft powerful defensive magic items.
Cacagnea
Soaring in the skies above you is a grotesque parody of a bird of prey—its long bare neck ends in a toothy beaked head and its wings stretch wider than the length of a battleship. The air shimmers and warps subtly around it, as if it were surrounded by an invisible barrier.
Taken from the Creature Codex
Cacagneas are giant bird-like creatures made up of a very unstable form of matter. Existence itself is violently corrosive to a cacagnea, and the creature’s touch is likewise incredibly destructive. To protect itself from a hostile universe, the cacagnea is forever encased in a screen of force that prevents it from being directly contacted by matter of any kind.
Cacagneas seem to gain nutrition from destroying matter, which they do in a more controlled manner through their annihilation pulse and by swallowing prey. Prey in a cacagnea’s stomach is surrounded in a miniature force screen of their own, which bombards them with destructive energy until they are reduced to atoms.
Cacagneas are native to the vast void between worlds, which they sail gracefully for millennia without pause. They only enter planetary atmosphere to eat, which they do both in preparation for laying an egg or for nesting. A cacagnea lays 1 to 4 eggs at a time, and the nestlings are highly dependent on their parent for food for a year before they leave the nest and the (by now severely depopulated) planet behind. Cacagneas are asexual creatures that can reproduce without ever seeing another of their kind, but sometimes a pair of cacagneas will travel the cosmos together.
A cacagnea’s wingspan is almost 150 feet long and the creature weighs upwards of 50 tons. Their bestial appearance belies a dim intelligence, and they are smart enough to target vulnerable opponents and retreat from overwhelming force. If a cacagnea’s force screen is disrupted, the creature will often fly into a suicidal rage, determined to cause as much damage as possible before being annihilated by its hostile environment.

Special Abilities
Annihilation Pulse (Su) As a standard action once every 1d4 rounds, a cacagnea can emit pure destructive energy in a 100 ft. radius. All creatures and unattended objects in the radius must succeed a DC 32 Fortitude save or take 20d8 points of damage. A successful save reduces the damage taken to 5d8. A creature reduced to 0 hit points by this attack is reduced to dust, as per the disintegrate spell. The save DC is Constitution based.
Force Screen (Su) It is surrounded at all times by a projection of pure force, similar to a wall of force spell. Although it does not fully block line of effect, it grants the cacagnea a +15 armor bonus to AC, a +5 resistance bonus to all saving throws, DR 15/- and resist 30 to all elemental damage. These benefits are included in the stat block above.
Starflight (Su) A cacagnea can survive in the void of outer space. It flies through space at an incredible speed. Although exact travel times vary, a trip within a single solar system should take 3d20 hours, while a trip beyond should take 3d20 days (or more, at the GM’s discretion)—provided the cacagnea knows the way to its destination.
Swallow Whole (Ex) Any creature reduced to 0 hit points when swallowed by a cacagnea is reduced to dust, as per the disintegrate spell.
Unstable Body (Ex) If a cacagnea’s force screen is removed, its body begins to break down at a rapid rate. This destructive force also applies to anything the cacagnea touches. Every round a cacagnea does not have its force screen active, it takes 5d6 points of typeless damage. It also takes 5d6 points of damage every time it touches a creature or object, but the creature or object touched takes 5d6 points of damage as well. This damage can be reduced to half by a successful DC 32 Fortitude save. The save DC is Constitution based. A cacagnea reduced to 0 hit points is reduced to dust, as per the disintegrate spell.
Vulnerable to Spells (Su) A disintegrate spell or rod of negation targeting a cacagnea nullifies its force screen for 1d4+1 rounds. A sphere of annihilation or rod of cancellation permanently destroys a cacangea’s force screen, as do a prismatic wall or prismatic sphere spell. Any effect that permanently destroys a cacagnea’s force screen is itself destroyed in the process.
