In 1453, Hemera is drawn to Constantinople as the old imperial capital faces the armies of the hobgoblin Ninefold Dominion. The Ottoman state remains a separate regional power. Hemera watches the siege with concern and longs to protect civilians caught inside the city.

As she wandered through the city’s streets, Hemera encountered a young girl named Sophia, who was struggling to survive amidst the chaos and uncertainty of the times. Moved by the girl’s plight, Hemera decided to take on a mortal form and guide her through the dangers of the city.

Over the next few months, Hemera helps Sophia navigate besieged Constantinople, using divine power sparingly to protect her from fire, hunger, panic and collapsing streets. Rumours of Mehmed II’s ambitions circulate beyond the city, but the Ottoman sultan is not the commander who takes Constantinople in this campaign chronology.

Through her interactions with Sophia and the other people she encountered, Hemera began to understand the complexities of the mortal world and the challenges faced by its inhabitants. She realized that her role as a goddess was not just to watch over the world from afar but to intervene and help where she could.

As the Ninefold Dominion closes in on Constantinople, Hemera and Sophia face their greatest challenge. In a desperate effort to save lives, Hemera summons a blinding flash that disrupts part of the Dominion assault and gives defenders and civilians precious time to regroup and escape.

The Ninefold Dominion nevertheless seizes Constantinople in 1453. Hemera cannot prevent the conquest, but her intervention saves lives during the final crisis. As she watches the city pass into occupation, grief hardens into a determination to protect people caught beneath the new order.

And so, Hemera continued to wander the world, interacting with mortals and influencing the course of history in subtle but meaningful ways. Though she could never fully comprehend the mortal experience, she was filled with a sense of wonder and awe at the resilience and ingenuity of humanity, and she remained committed to doing her part to ensure that the world continued to thrive and prosper.
