Untamed Settlement

An untamed settlement stands where streets and wilderness still overlap. It may be a remote logging village, an oasis trading post, a mountain keep or a frontier community whose walls do not fully separate civilisation from the land around it.

Legacy Settlement Rule

When generating random encounters under the legacy quality, alternate between the normal urban encounter table and the wilderness encounter table most appropriate to the surrounding terrain. The settlement’s Danger rating applies to both.

What Adventurers Notice

  • Wild animals and monsters can enter settled areas more easily.
  • Roads, fences and cleared land may end abruptly beyond the last buildings.
  • Residents are accustomed to weather, tracks, predators and supply problems.

Using It in Play

An untamed settlement is ideal for adventures where the distinction between town and wilderness matters. A missing child may have wandered only a few hundred yards yet crossed into dangerous ground. Tracks in a market street may belong to livestock—or to something that came out of the forest during the night.

Local knowledge should matter as much as formal law. Hunters, drovers and scouts may understand dangers that visiting officials dismiss.
