“Ghost Fang: The Rapier of Puncturing”

Ghost Fang: The Rapier of Puncturing
Create

The Rapier of Puncturing is a magical weapon, prized by duelists, mercenaries, and city guards who value precision over brute force. Forged in secret workshops across Venice, Florence, and Constantinople, each blade hums with subtle enchantments that let it pierce armour and strike at vulnerabilities ordinary swords cannot touch. Faint runes trace the steel, guiding the wielder’s hand toward every weak point.

Passing through the hands of skilled warriors via patrons, mercenary companies, or spoils of war. Their reputation grows with every duel, skirmish, and daring escape, whispered in taverns as the “ghost blades” that find armour gaps as easily as a needle pierces cloth.

The Rapier of Puncturing embodies finesse and mastery in a changing age: armor still protects, firearms begin to appear, and only the most skilled swordsmen can exploit its magic to the fullest. Its rarity and precision make it a coveted prize for those who thrive on speed, cunning, and the thrill of the perfect strike.

Lore

The Rapier of Puncturing is a rare magical weapon forged by master swordsmiths of Venice, Florence, and Constantinople. Each slender blade is etched with faint runes that shimmer when drawn, channeling enchantments that guide thrusts toward weak points in armor. Known as “ghost blades,” these rapiers are never mass-produced but circulate among duelists, mercenaries, and spies. Their legend grows not from a single hero, but from countless battles where they slip past defenses like a needle through cloth.

Abilities

  • Magic Weapon. Grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls (rare) or +2 (very rare).
  • Armor Piercing. On a hit against a creature wearing armor or with natural armor, the target takes an extra 1d6 piercing damage. This bonus damage ignores nonmagical armor defenses.
  • Weak Point Strike (1/short or long rest). Before making an attack, you may declare a Weak Point Strike. On a hit, the attack ignores armor, natural armor, and damage resistances. It deals an extra 2d6 piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or suffer disadvantage on its next attack roll.

Rarity

  • Rare (+1): Found among skilled duelists, mercenaries, or spies.
  • Very Rare (+2): Mastercrafted versions tied to great battles or wielded by legendary duelists.

Gameplay & Story Hooks

  • For Players: A perfect weapon for rogues, swashbucklers, and duelists who rely on speed and precision.
  • For DMs: A flavorful reward that fits mid- to high-level play, especially effective against armored foes and bosses.
  • In Campaigns: Embodies the transitional warfare where armor is still common, firearms are emerging, and finesse can outmatch brute force.

DESCRIPTION
The Rapier of Puncturing is a finely crafted, magically enhanced rapier designed to bypass armor and strike at vital points. Its blade is etched with faint runes that seem to shimmer when the weapon is thrust toward an armored foe. Forged in secret workshops in Venice, Florence, and Constantinople, these blades are rare but not unique, and their reputation as “ghost blades” spreads across Europe and beyond.

A Rapier of Puncturing functions as a +1 or +2 rapier, depending on the quality of the forge and enchantment. In addition, the weapon has the following magical properties:

  • Armor Piercing: On a successful hit against a target wearing armor (including natural armor), the wielder ignores 2 points of the target’s armor bonus to AC (not touch AC). Against targets with damage reduction, the rapier also counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming DR.
  • Precision Thrust (1/day): Once per day as a free action, the wielder may declare a precision thrust before making an attack roll. If the attack hits, the damage ignores all armor, natural armor, and shield bonuses to AC, and the strike deals an additional +2d6 piercing damage.
  • Finesse Ready: The weapon is always treated as though it had the Weapon Finesse feat applied (even for wielders without the feat).
