Improved Critical (General)

Choose one type of weapon.

• Prerequisite: Proficient with weapon, base attack bonus +8.
• Benefit: When using the weapon you selected, your threat range is doubled.
• Special: You can gain Improved Critical multiple times. The effects do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.

This effect doesn’t stack with any other effect that expands the threat range of a weapon.

A fighter may select Improved Critical as one of his fighter bonus feats.

How Improved Critical Works

Improved Critical doubles the threat range of one selected weapon type. It changes how often attacks threaten a critical hit; it does not change the weapon’s critical multiplier or guarantee that a threatened critical is confirmed.

Improved Critical Example

A weapon that normally threatens a critical on a natural 20 instead threatens on 19–20 after Improved Critical. A weapon with a 19–20 threat range instead threatens on 17–20. The weapon’s normal confirmation and critical-damage rules still apply.

Important Limits

• You must be proficient with the selected weapon and have base attack bonus +8.
• You can take Improved Critical more than once, but each selection applies to a different weapon type.
• The effect does not stack with another effect that expands the same weapon’s threat range.
