Solomon Grundy
Solomon Grundy is a fictional character, usually depicted as a supervillain and occasional antihero in DC Comics. He was originally depicted as a murder victim brought back to life as a corporeal revenant or zombie, though subsequent versions of the character have occasionally depicted a different origin. His name is taken from the 19th century nursery rhyme “Solomon Grundy“.
Grundy was introduced as an enemy of comic book hero Alan Scott (the original Green Lantern), but has since become a prominent enemy for a number of superheroes such as Superman, Batman, the Green Lantern, and The Flash. He also has ties to Swamp Thing.
Solomon Grundy appeared in the DC Animated Universe, where he first became an antihero. The character made his live-action debut as Cyrus Gold in the second season of the Arrowverse series Arrow, and on Fox’s television series Gotham. Solomon Grundy also appeared in CGI form in the first season of the television series Stargirl for DC Universe and The CW network.

Rejuvenation: Solomon Grundy is the revenant of Cyrus Gold. As such, when he is killed, he reforms again in 2d20 months, returning again to seek his revenge. The curse that animates him only allows fragments of his personality through, so at times he is more intelligent, or even good aligned. His strength also varies, at times he has been nearly as powerful as Superman, and other times he is no stronger than a Hill Giant.
When Grundy reforms, make the following adjustments:
- Roll 1d6. On an odd number, subtract it from Grundy’s intelligence score. On an even, add it to the score.
- Roll 1d20. On an odd number, subtract it from Grundy’s strength score. On an even, add it to the score.
- Roll 1d8. On a one, Grundy is chaotic good. On a 2 or 3, he is chaotic neutral. Any other rolls he is chaotic evil.
