From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wonder Woman is Princess Diana of the Amazon warrior tribe. Her character was based on the Greek mythological Artemis, Diana was the Roman equivalent. The writer of the Wonder Woman stories had wanted to combine the two, but they mostly leaned towards the Greek mythology.

The Greek Gods had bestowed on her many gifts, in the form of extra-special powers. She was higly agile and fast, had formidable fighting skills and her sense were enormously enhanced. She was able to communicate and empathise with animals, was connected to nature, and had a special bond for her fellow women who she referred to as her “sisters”. She was an Earth mother with a feminine side, as well as a fearless powerful warrior.

Her famous weapon, the Lasso of Truth, was forged from the Magic Girdle of Aphrodite. Queen Hippolyta, who was Diana’s mother, had inherited from the great Goddess, and had passed it to Diana. The lasso was designed to obey the commands of Diana, who would use it to compel people to tell the absolute truth.

Wonder Woman’s mission was not to destroy criminals, but to reform them and make them see the error of their ways. The Amazons had helped with this mission by constructing a vast complex, specially designed to help criminals reform to decent human beings. It was built on a small island, just off the coast off Paradise Island, This was named Transformation Island. Wonder Woman had also joined the Justice Society of America, being the first and most important female member.
