Globster Ooze: Tidelurker of Rot and Bile
“It looks like a rotting whale carcass—until it lurches forward, groaning, and a tidal belch of globster ooze erupts from its maw.”

A seething mass of rancid blubber, teeth, and bile, the globster ooze slouches forth with the stench of the sea’s graveyard, its bloated folds twitching with the memory of what it has eaten—and what it will consume.
A globster ooze resembles a grotesque, asymmetrical mound of partially digested sea life—whale blubber, squid tentacles, barnacle-ridden flesh, and jutting bones—all fused into a lurching, dripping mass. Its translucent hide quivers, revealing the shifting forms of half-consumed organs writhing within. Patches of its surface intermittently split open, revealing tooth-ringed maws or pustule-like vents that release blasts of fetid steam and chunky ooze.
Behavior
Deceptively inert at first, a globster ooze lies motionless for hours—sometimes days—feigning death to lure in scavengers or curious humanoids. When provoked or hungry, it lurches into motion, flinging itself at prey with surprising speed. It attacks with its weight, acid-laced slam attacks, and nauseating emissions, often coating the battlefield with its own ooze, which continues to digest and dissolve anything it touches.
It has no mind, but reacts with a predatory instinct, prioritizing movement and feeding above all else. When severely bloated, it may expel a portion of its mass—a fully formed spawn that attacks immediately.
Habitat
Globster oozes are found along desolate coastlines, reef-littered beaches, or drowned caves. They often wash ashore during high tides or storm surges, blending in with real carcasses and debris. While primarily aquatic, they can survive on land for several hours, slowly drying out unless rehydrated by seawater.
The ideal breeding ground is a coastline rich in marine carrion and unwary coastal villagers. During certain moon phases, multiple globsters may emerge in sync, creating the illusion of a plague of living corpses rising from the sea.
Modus Operandi
- Lure: Lies dormant among beach wreckage, exuding stench to attract or confuse.
- Ambush: Springs to life with a grapple or slam, attempting to nauseate or pin prey.
- Consume: Absorbs victims alive into its mass, slowly digesting them within.
- Replicate: Once sated, regurgitates partially digested biomass fused with its flesh, creating a new globster ooze to continue the cycle.
Globster oozes don’t pursue prey far from the shoreline unless flooded terrain allows it. Their instinct is to consume, replicate, and return to the sea.
Motivation
Globster oozes are not intelligent in the conventional sense. Their “motivation” is a biological imperative to feed and multiply, driven by a viral or parasitic force that reanimates dead sea matter. Some coastal sages claim globsters are the spawn of primordial ocean gods, a punishment for overfishing or coastal desecration. Others whisper of plague cults that seed beaches with tainted remains to birth globsters deliberately.

Traits
Amorphous Mass.
The globster ooze can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. It ignores difficult terrain.
Putrid Stench.
Any creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of the globster ooze must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned until the start of its next turn. On a successful save, the creature is immune to this effect for 24 hours. Creatures immune to poison automatically succeed.
Undead Confusion.
The globster ooze appears dead or inert when motionless. A creature must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence (Nature or Medicine) check to determine that the ooze is alive. If a creature touches the ooze while it is feigning death, it may use its Vile Awakening reaction.
Water Dependency.
If the globster ooze begins its turn more than 1 hour after its last contact with seawater, it takes 5 (1d10) necrotic damage and has disadvantage on attack rolls until it is rehydrated.
Actions
Multiattack.
The globster ooze makes two slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 7 (2d6) acid damage.
If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be nauseated until the end of its next turn. While nauseated, a creature can’t take reactions and must choose either an action or movement on its turn, not both.
Vomitus Spawn (Recharge 5–6).
The globster ooze regurgitates a mass of partially digested flesh and bile. It takes 7 (2d6) damage and creates a Spawn Globlet in an adjacent space. The spawn acts on the same initiative and immediately attacks a non-globster creature within 10 feet. The globster can only spawn if it has absorbed at least one Medium or larger creature in the last 24 hours.
Ooze Trail (1/Day).
The globster expels a trail of globster ooze in a 10-foot-wide, 30-foot-long line. The area becomes difficult terrain for 1 minute. Any creature that enters the area or starts its turn there must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone and take 5 (1d10) acid damage. If already prone, the creature becomes restrained by the clinging muck.
Reactions
Vile Awakening.
When a creature touches the globster ooze while it is motionless, the globster may immediately make a slam attack and expel bile in a 5-foot cone. The target must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.
Spawn Globlet (Creature Feature)
Tiny ooze, unaligned
- Armor Class: 11
- Hit Points: 7 (2d4 + 2)
- Speed: 20 ft., swim 20 ft.
- Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, 1d6 + 2 acid damage.
If two spawn globlets are within 5 feet of each other, they may merge as a bonus action into a Medium mini-globster (AC 12, HP 22, Slam 2d6 + 3). Up to four globlets can combine to form a Large one.
Tactics
- Ambush: Prefers lying motionless among beach debris and attacking unsuspecting prey.
- Terrain Control: Opens combat with Ooze Trail to restrict movement.
- Swarm Creation: Prioritizes consuming weaker prey to enable use of Vomitus Spawn.
- Tactical Retreat: If reduced to half hit points, the ooze may attempt to retreat toward water.
Treasure
A globster ooze carries no treasure of its own, but the remains of swallowed victims may contain:
- Salt-rusted weapons or armor
- Sealed scroll tubes
- Coral-covered trinkets
- Alchemical residue worth 50–200 gp to researchers, cultists, or plague doctors
Globster Ooze

This grotesque mass of blubber and rancid flesh piles up hideously upon itself, opening a vast maw filled with teeth.

A globster is a living collection of half-digested parts from large sea creatures such as whales and squid. Passersby usually discover it by smell long before they see it. Many unfortunate folk who happen upon a globster mistake it for the carcass of a beached sea animal, getting too close before discovering the seemingly dead creature is very much alive. For a time, sages believed globsters were undead – that they were simply undulating wads of rotting flesh animated with a drive to feed. However, globsters are actually living creatures.
Globsters usually wash up on a beach or float to the shore to feed on terrestrial stock for a few hours before returning to the safety of water. Some say the tides and phases of the moon are to blame for the times globsters come to land to feed. Globsters reproduce by mixing parts of their own foul bodies with the poorly digested remains of their meals.

SPECIAL ABILITIES |
Create Spawn (Ex) When a globster eats a living creature, it only digests a small portion of the remains. As the undigested remains accumulate inside of it, the globster grows more and more bloated. As a full-round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity, a globster can regurgitate these foul remains along with portions of its own mass. Doing so causes the globster 1d6 points of damage, but creates a new, fully grown globster that immediately attacks the nearest non-globster target. A globster can create spawn up to once per day, though only after it has fed upon at least four Medium-sized creatures (or the equivalent number of creatures of other sizes). Decompose (Ex) A slain globster decays into a mass of goo in the span of 24 hours. However, the corpse retains the creature’s stench aura for 1d10 days after its death. Nausea (Ex) Any creature struck by a globster must make a DC 18 Fortitude save to avoid being nauseated for 1 round. Once a creature makes this saving throw, it is immune to further nausea effects from that particular globster for 24 hours. This is a poison effect. The save DC is Constitution-based. |
