Keen Smell. It has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Pounce. If the wampus cat moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Multiattack. It makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.

  • Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (1d10 + 4) piercing damage.
  • Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 9 (1d8 + 4) slashing damage.
  • Terrifying Presence. Each creature of the wampus cat’s choice that is within 30 feet of it and aware of it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the wampus cat’s Terrifying Presence for the next 24 hours.

Actions

Frightful Roar (Recharge 5-6). It emits a terrifying roar. Each creature within 30 feet of the wampus cat that can hear it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.


Legendary Actions

It can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The wampus cat regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Move. The cat moves up to its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
  • Claw Attack. The cat makes one claw attack.
  • Terrifying Gaze (Costs 2 Actions). The cat fixes its gaze on a creature it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see the wampus cat, it must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. The frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

The presence of a wampus cat creates an eerie atmosphere in the surrounding area. The woods become still and silent, and strange shadows dance in the moonlight. Creatures native to the region that are hostile to the wampus cat gain advantage on attack rolls and saving throws against effects created by the wampus cat.


Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the wampus cat takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:

  • The wampus cat releases a bone-chilling roar. Each creature within 120 feet that can hear the roar must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
  • The shadows in the area become animated, creating illusions of ghostly forms. The wampus cat and creatures it chooses within its lair have advantage on Stealth checks for the next minute.
