The Baobhan Sith is a haunting and dangerous creature from Scottish folklore, a vampiric fae with a deadly beauty and a chilling presence. She appears as an enchanting woman, her skin pale as moonlight, with long, dark hair cascading down her back. Her eyes are said to gleam with an eerie, hypnotic allure, drawing in her victims, often young men wandering alone at night. In some versions of the myth, her feet are backward, a subtle but unsettling detail that hints at her true nature, while others claim she has bird-like talons that become visible once she reveals her predatory form.

Her behavior is cunning and seductive; the Baobhan Sith is a creature of the night, prowling the desolate Scottish highlands or deep forests under the cover of darkness. She often appears to travelers, offering companionship or comfort before ensnaring them in her deadly trap. She preys on the lonely or unsuspecting, luring them to isolated areas where no help can come. Once her victim is in her grasp, she uses her supernatural strength and speed to overpower them, draining their blood with swift, precise movements—often from the neck or wrists.

The Baobhan Sith is not just a mindless predator; her modus operandi is based on her ability to blend into her surroundings, disguising herself as a normal, beautiful woman to tempt her prey. Once she has lured someone away, she becomes a ravenous predator, feeding until her victim is lifeless. Her motivation is not just hunger but also a twisted desire for power and control. As a creature of the fae, the Baobhan Sith is driven by an insatiable need to feed on human life force, seeking to remain eternally youthful and powerful.

Her habitat lies in the shadows of the wild and untamed parts of Scotland—dense forests, rocky hills, and fog-shrouded glens—places where few venture and where the supernatural is believed to linger. She is a predator of the night, existing in the liminal spaces between the human world and the fae realm, a reminder of the dangers lurking just beyond the veil of civilization.

Traits

Fey Presence (Recharge 5–6).
The Baobhan Sith exudes an aura of enchantment. Each creature of her choice within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed or frightened (Baobhan Sith’s choice) for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Spider Climb.
The Baobhan Sith can climb difficult surfaces, including walls and ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Shadow Step.
As a bonus action, the Baobhan Sith can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space she can see that is in dim light or darkness. She can make one melee attack immediately after teleporting.

Enchanting Dance (Recharge 5–6).
As an action, the Baobhan Sith begins a mesmerizing dance. Each creature within 30 feet that can see her must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become incapacitated as they are entranced by her movements. This effect lasts until the Baobhan Sith stops dancing (no action required) or takes damage. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Undead Strength.
When the Baobhan Sith deals necrotic damage with an attack, she gains temporary hit points equal to the necrotic damage dealt. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute.


Actions

Multiattack.
The Baobhan Sith makes two Claw attacks and one Vampiric Kiss attack.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target.
Hit: 12 (2d6 + 5) slashing damage plus 5 (1d10) necrotic damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for 1 minute. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Vampiric Kiss. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature that is charmed, frightened, or paralyzed.
Hit: 16 (3d6 + 4) piercing damage, and the Baobhan Sith regains hit points equal to the damage dealt.

Dreadful Howl (Recharge 5–6).
The Baobhan Sith emits a chilling, otherworldly howl. Each creature within 30 feet of her that can hear the howl must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.


Legendary Actions

The Baobhan Sith can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Baobhan Sith regains spent legendary actions at the start of her turn.

  • Claw Attack. The Baobhan Sith makes one Claw attack.
  • Vampiric Step. The Baobhan Sith teleports up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space she can see.
  • Dreadful Glare (Costs 2 Actions). The Baobhan Sith targets one creature she can see within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become paralyzed for 1 minute.

Tactics

  • Ambush Predator. The Baobhan Sith relies on stealth, using Shadow Step and Spider Climb to lurk in darkness or on ceilings, striking when her prey is vulnerable.
  • Divide and Conquer. She uses Enchanting Dance or Fey Presence to disable multiple foes, isolating one or two to paralyze or charm for her Vampiric Kiss.
  • Hit-and-Run Tactics. Shadow Step and her Legendary Actions allow her to remain highly mobile, avoiding concentrated attacks while harrying weaker foes.
  • Fear and Control. By cycling through Dreadful Howl and Dreadful Glare, she ensures enemies remain frightened and paralyzed, unable to mount a coordinated response.

This creature appears as a female elf with pearl white skin, golden hair, and eyes of emerald. Her figure is sleek and curved and she moves with a cat-like grace.

Baobhan sith (bavaan shee) are evil female fey that feed on the blood of living creatures. By entrancing creatures with their dance, they lure men to their deaths. Baobhan sith are always female; no males of this race are known to exist.

These creatures are generally found in remote locations such as unclaimed forests or overgrown and ruined keeps, castles, or the like; always a secluded location, but close enough to a populated area that the baobhan sith can feed when hungry. Their lairs are typically clean; the monsters have disposed of the rotting corpses of past victims. They are solitary creatures and never work in groups. Baobhan siths each have their own hunting ground and to intrude on another’s is certain death.

Baobhan siths prefer to use their abilities against male humanoids, particularly elves or humans. They generally avoid dwarves and halflings, though if food is scarce they have no qualms about draining the blood of just about any living creature. They do not drink the blood of animals; no matter how hungry they are, as they see this as primitive and savage.

A baobhan sith stands 5 to 5-1/2 feet tall and weighs roughly 120 pounds. Her hair ranges in color from black or brown to golden yellow. Eye color varies but is usually brown or green. A baobhan sith wears flowing, loose-fitting robes or tunics of white often tied at the waist with a scarf of red or black.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Blood Drain (Ex)

A baobhan sith can suck blood from a grappled or helpless opponent; if she establishes or maintains a pin, she deals bite damage and drains blood, dealing 1d4 points of Strength damage and 1d4 points of Constitution damage each round.

Captivating Dance (Su)

When a baobhan sith dances, all living creatures within 30 feet that view the rhythmic swaying and movements of her body must succeed on a DC 19 Will save or become utterly enthralled and captivated. Creatures that are sexually attracted to females who view this dance suffer a –2 penalty on their saving throws. A creature that makes its save cannot be affected again by the same baobhan sith’s captivating dance for one day. A captivated creature is dazed (it cannot attack, but can defend normally). This continues for as long as the baobhan sith dances. A baobhan sith can move and act normally (including using her spell-like abilities) while maintaining her dance. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Dying Words (Sp)

When a baobhan sith is slain, she utters a curse as a free action (whether it’s her turn or not) that affects her killer as if it were a bestow curse spell (caster level 10th). The target can resist the curse with a successful DC 19 Will save. If the save fails, the target suffers a –6 decrease to its highest ability score. The save DC is Charisma-based.

A baobhan sith prefers to attack a lone target and generally avoids combat with groups, fleeing if confronted by such a party. Stragglers are often the subject of the baobhan sith’s attention if the straggler is far enough behind its comrades.

When first encountered, a baobhan sith opens combat with her captivating dance. Creatures that fail to succumb are entangled. Once she has captivated at least one foe, she moves in and sinks her teeth into its chest or throat and drains blood. If overwhelmed or outnumbered, the baobhan sith uses her entangle ability (if she hasn’t already used it) and tries to slip away into the surrounding forest.
