“Spitting Cobra: Venomous Ambush Predator”
A spitting cobra rears its hood and hisses with venomous fury, unleashing a blinding spray of poison that sears the eyes of any who dare meet its gaze.

A lithe, hooded serpent that strikes with deadly precision, the spitting cobra blinds its foes with a jet of venom before closing in for the kill.
Appearance
Slender and muscular, three to six feet long, with glossy scales in browns, bronzes, or black bands that camouflage it in dry terrain. When threatened, it raises the front third of its body and spreads a narrow hood marked with faint, eye-like patterns. Its forward-facing fangs can spray venom in a fine, shimmering mist.
Behaviour
Cautious yet fearless when cornered, it hisses, rears, and flares its hood to intimidate. Nocturnal and patient, it stalks prey for hours, avoiding larger predators and striking with calculated precision.
Habitat
Found in dry savannas, rocky scrublands, and sparse forests. Shelters include termite mounds, hollow logs, and abandoned burrows near water sources, forming small, fiercely defended territories.
Modus Operandi
The cobra hunts with stealth, blinding prey with venom before delivering a fatal bite. In combat, it targets eyes first, turning aggressors into panicked, disoriented victims.
Motivation
Its instincts are cold and precise: survive, hunt, and defend. Every hiss, hood-flare, and venom spray is a calculated act of predatory efficiency, making it an elegant yet merciless foe.

Traits
Hood Display. When threatened, the cobra spreads its hood and hisses. Any creature within 10 feet that can see it must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of the cobra’s next turn.
Venomous Spray (Recharge 5–6). The cobra spits venom in a 10-foot line that is 5 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Creatures with eyes must also succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of their next turn.
Keen Smell. Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 5 (1d6) poison damage.
Reactions
Defensive Spit. When a creature within 10 feet hits the cobra with a melee attack, the cobra can immediately use its Venomous Spray against that creature.
Behavior and Tactics
Spitting cobras are cautious, instinct-driven predators. They rely on stealth, camouflage, and precise venom sprays to disable threats or prey. Typically, they avoid larger predators and retreat if cornered. When threatened, they first display their hood and hiss; if ignored, they may spit venom at eyes to blind aggressors, striking only if necessary.
Habitat
Spitting cobras inhabit savannas, scrublands, and dry forests, often sheltering in hollow logs, termite mounds, or abandoned burrows. They hunt small mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles, and maintain territories where prey is abundant.
Lore
A spitting cobra is a master of defensive precision. Highly alert and patient, it uses venom primarily as a deterrent, not out of malice. Encounters are often brief: a warning display, a defensive spray, and retreat if the threat persists. Though dangerous, it acts purely on survival instinct.
Spitting Cobra

A spitting cobra is a 3 foot long, grayish-white snake which spits a stream of venom at its victim’s eyes. As with most small poisonous snakes, a spitting cobra will not attack human-sized or larger opponents unless startled or threatened.
