Dinosaur, Therizinosaurus

This towering, feather-draped monstrosity stands over 30 feet tall, with a hunched, pot-bellied torso and a serpent-like neck that ends in a narrow, beaked skull. Its most terrifying feature: three elongated forelimbs, each tipped with scythe-like claws over 3 feet long—curved and black as obsidian. Despite its brutish form, its feathered body ripples with slow, deliberate grace, like a bird of prey that has forgotten how to fly.

Behaviour:
Therizinosaurs are solitary and cryptic, rarely engaging unless threatened or competing for food. They communicate with low, guttural moans and feather-ruffling displays. Despite their formidable weaponry, they are non-aggressive toward most creatures unless provoked, preferring a slow, looming presence to direct confrontation.

Habitat:
Dense primeval jungles, high-canopy forests, and fern-choked valleys are the domain of the Therizinosaurus. They carve silent paths through ancient woodlands, using their claws to strip bark, topple saplings, and rake edible foliage from treetops.

Modus Operandi:
Though herbivorous, the Therizinosaurus defends its territory with terrifying efficiency. When threatened, it rears up and unleashes a rapid, scything slash with its claws—capable of shredding armor, foliage, and flesh alike. Opponents often underestimate it due to its slow pace—until it strikes with shocking reach and force. It may also bluff with a series of threatening calls and body displays before engaging.

Motivation:
Driven by survival, territory, and feeding, the Therizinosaurus has no malice, only instinct. It seeks quiet dominion over its forest realm and reacts violently to intrusion. Some druids claim it serves as an ancient guardian of the forest, an avatar of balance between peace and destruction.

Traits

● Forest Guardian.
The Therizinosaurus is magically attuned to the natural world. While in forested or jungle terrain, it is always under the effects of pass without trace, and difficult terrain caused by vegetation doesn’t cost it extra movement.

● Frightening Display (Recharge 5–6).
As a bonus action, the Therizinosaurus fans its feathered arms, rears back, and unleashes an earth-rattling screech. Each creature within 30 feet that can see and hear it must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened creature can repeat the save at the end of each of its turns.

● Relentless Reach.
The Therizinosaurus’s melee attacks have 10-foot reach due to its enormous claws.

● Keen Smell.
The Therizinosaurus has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Actions

● Multiattack.
The Therizinosaurus makes two Claw attacks and one Tail Slam, or one Claw attack and uses Cleave the Canopy if available.

● Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 22 (3d10 + 6) slashing damage. On a critical hit, the target must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone or disarmed (DM’s choice based on weapon held).

● Tail Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target behind or adjacent to the Therizinosaurus.
Hit: 18 (2d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage. Medium or smaller creatures must make a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away.

● Cleave the Canopy (Recharge 4–6).
The Therizinosaurus swings its claws in a wide arc. All creatures in a 15-foot cone must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) slashing damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Objects and plants in the area (including cover) are shredded.

Legendary Actions (Optional for Elite Version)

The Therizinosaurus can take 2 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn.

  • Move Without Sound. The Therizinosaurus moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
  • Sudden Lash (Costs 2 Actions). The Therizinosaurus makes one Claw attack against a creature within reach that just moved or cast a spell.

Tactics

  • Opening Combat with Frightening Display is its preferred strategy—intimidate, scatter, then isolate.
  • Targets frontline melee with its Claws, attempting to disarm weapon users or knock down shield bearers.
  • If surrounded, it uses Cleave the Canopy to clear space and eliminate weaker enemies quickly.
  • In dense terrain, it uses its Forest Guardian trait to disappear and reposition, striking from behind cover like a forest ghost.
  • Retreats only when bloodied and alone—territorial but not suicidal.

Dinosaur, Therizinosaurus

Therizinosaurus
Theropod dinosaur from the cretaceous period
Mariolanzas – Own work

This feathered bipedal saurian looks somewhat comical—save for its outlandish sword-sized claws.

At first glance, this dinosaur’s massive claws may well convince observers that it is a predator, but the therizinosaurus is in fact an omnivore.

Nonetheless, the therizinosaurus has a foul temper and is both easily angered and difficult to spook. With its deepcutting claws, the therizinosaurus is more than a match for even the mightiest of predatory dinosaurs. A therizinosaurus is 35 feet long and weighs 13,000 pounds.

Family: Dinosaurs

This bipedal dinosaur stands nearly 20 feet tall, while its forelimbs end in elongated and deadly claws.

  • BiteMelee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (3d6+6) slashing damage.

This dinosaur, while appearing as a fearsome clawed dinosaur, is actually a herbivore. Though used to gather food, its claws act as a powerful weapon against predators, allowing the therizinosaurus to make deadly rakes. It is a popular creature to domesticate (or just chain up) for guard duty, as it is a fierce attacker when agitated.
