The Riddler (Edward Nigma)
The Riddler (Edward Nigma, later Edward Nygma and Edward Nashton) is a supervillain appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, created by Bill Finger and Dick Sprang. He first appeared in Detective Comics #140 (October 1948). The Riddler is commonly depicted as a criminal mastermind in Gotham City who takes delight in incorporating riddles and puzzles into his schemes, leaving them as clues for the authorities to solve. The Riddler is one of the most enduring enemies of the superhero Batman and belongs to the collective of adversaries that make up his rogues gallery.
In 2009, The Riddler was ranked as IGN’s 59th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time. He has been adapted for media including films, television series, and video games. The Riddler has been voiced by John Glover in the DC animated universe, Robert Englund in The Batman and Wally Wingert in the Batman: Arkham video game series. He has been portrayed in live-action by Frank Gorshin and John Astin in the 1960s Batman television series, Jim Carrey in the 1995 film Batman Forever, Cory Michael Smith in the television series Gotham, and Paul Dano in the forthcoming film The Batman.

Obsessive Compulsive: Nigma is compelled to leave complex clues in the form of riddles, detailing his crimes and future plans. Nigma creates the riddles with a Craft (writing) check, which can be opposed with a successful Research check, followed by a successful Sense Motive check. Riddler can make Bluff, Knowledge, and Research
checks to improve the DC of his riddles. Each additional skill can only be used once per riddle.
- Integrating Bluff increases the DC of the Sense Motive check by +4 if Riddler makes a DC 30 check, and +6 if he succeeds on a DC 40 check.
- Integrating a Knowledge skill increases the DC of the Research check by +1 if Riddler make a DC 30 check, and by +2 if he succeeds on a DC 40 check.
- Integrating Research grants the Craft (writing) check a +2 synergy bonus if Riddler makes a DC 30 check and a +4 synergy bonus if he succeeds on a DC 40 check.
Riddler carries a cane which functions as a mastercraft club in combat, and sometimes is armed with a fire arm. A non-combatant, Riddler prefers to have his goons do his work for him.
