Buri is a mythological figure in Norse mythology, known as the first being to emerge from the void, before the existence of gods or giants. He is often considered the father of Borr, the grandfather of Odin, and the great-grandfather of Thor.

As a being born from the emptiness of the void, Buri embodies the raw potential of creation and is regarded as a powerful and enigmatic figure in Norse mythology. He possesses a deep understanding of the fundamental forces of the universe and has a unique perspective on the nature of reality.

Despite his immense power, Buri is a humble and unassuming being, preferring to live a simple life in isolation from the other gods and giants. He spends much of his time in meditation, contemplating the mysteries of the universe and seeking to unlock the secrets of existence.

Despite his desire for solitude, he is not a selfish being, and he recognizes the need for balance and harmony in the universe. He is often called upon by other beings to mediate disputes and provide counsel, and his wise and impartial nature makes him a trusted advisor to many.

In Asgard he is a tall and slender male figure, standing at over 7 feet tall with a muscular build, icy blue skin, and long white hair that flows down his back. He has piercing blue eyes that seem to glow with an otherworldly energy, and his features are sharp and chiseled. He wears a simple tunic and leggings made from animal hides and carries a staff made of polished ice, which he wields with effortless grace. His movements are smooth and precise, and his presence commands respect and awe.

Ultimately, Buri’s goal is to understand the nature of the universe and to help others find their place within it. He is driven by a desire to see all beings reach their full potential and live fulfilling lives, and he sees his role as a guide and mentor in achieving this goal.

  • Frightful Presence. Each creature of Buri’s choice within 120 ft. of him and aware of him must succeed on a DC 30 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to Buri’s Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Buri can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; Buri can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • He creates a tremor in the ground, causing each creature within 120 feet of him to make a DC 30 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
  • He calls forth a powerful windstorm in a 120-foot radius around him, causing all ranged attacks made against him to have disadvantage until initiative count 20 of the next round.
  • He creates a wall of stone, up to 60 feet long, 30 feet high, and 5 feet thick, within 120 feet of him. The wall can be shaped as Buri desires, and it lasts for 1 minute before crumbling to rubble.

Legendary Actions

Buri can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. Buri regains spent legendary actions at the start of his turn.

  • Attack. He makes a staff attack.
  • Move. Buri moves up to his speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
  • Cast a Spell (Costs 2 Actions). Buri casts a spell from his list of innate spells.

Taking on human form Buri wanders through the streets of a bustling medieval town in the 1450s. His eyes scan the crowds as he moves swiftly and gracefully, blending in with the townsfolk. He’s been around for centuries, but he still feels like he’s learning about the world with each passing day.

As he observes the goings-on of the town, he can’t help but notice the growing power of the Church. The Inquisition’s reach seems to grow stronger every day, and Buri knows that it spells danger for anyone who doesn’t fit into their narrow definition of faith. He’s seen this before – the rise of dogma and intolerance – and he knows it never ends well.

Buri has always been a wanderer, a lover of stories and cultures. He’s been to every corner of the world and back again, and he’s never felt quite at home in any one place. But lately, he’s begun to feel a sense of responsibility weighing on him. He knows that he has a unique perspective, having witnessed so much of human history firsthand. And he feels that it’s his duty to use that perspective to help shape the future in a positive way.

As he walks through the town, Buri thinks about the changes he’d like to see in the world. He wants people to be more tolerant, more accepting of each other’s differences. He wants them to learn from history, rather than repeating the same mistakes over and over again. And most of all, he wants them to recognize that the world is a beautiful, diverse, and complicated place – and that’s something to be celebrated, not feared.

For now, Buri keeps his thoughts to himself. He knows that change doesn’t happen overnight, and that the forces of history are often beyond any one person’s control. But he also knows that every little action counts, and he’s always looking for ways to make a positive difference. As he walks through the town, he keeps his eyes and ears open, always searching for opportunities to help others and make the world a better place.
