Child’s Play is a 2019 American horror film directed by Lars Klevberg, produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, and written by Tyler Burton Smith, serving as a remake of the 1988 film of the same title and a reboot of the Child’s Play franchise The film stars Aubrey PlazaGabriel BatemanBrian Tyree Henry, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. The plot follows a family terrorized by a high-tech doll who becomes self-aware and subsequently murderous.

A modern version of Child’s Play, a reboot, was announced by MGM to be in development beginning in July 2018. Klevberg signed on as director, from a script by Burton Smith. Klevberg said in a interview he drew inspiration from the 1982 film E.T. the Extra-TerrestrialPrincipal photography began on September 17 and wrapped on November 8, 2018, in Vancouver, Canada.

Child’s Play was released in the United States on June 21, 2019, by Orion Pictures through United Artists Releasing. The film grossed over $44.9 million worldwide and received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the dark humor, performances and origin story but found its tone inconsistent and criticized the dolls’ design and movement.
